You should have at least a basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts and topology. Related Documentation · Quick Start Guide The Quick Start Guide is designed to help you get up and running right away. It contains information on setting up your network and configuring for Internet access. [. . . ] This is the time interval (in seconds) at which the root switch transmits a configuration message. This is the maximum time (in seconds) the Switch can wait without receiving a configuration message before attempting to reconfigure. This is the time (in seconds) the root switch will wait before changing states (that is, listening to learning to forwarding). Hello Time (second) Max Age (second) Forwarding Delay (second) Note: The listening state does not exist in RSTP. Cost to Bridge Port ID Topology Changed Times Time Since Last Change This is the path cost from the root port on this Switch to the root switch. This is the priority and number of the port on the Switch through which this Switch must communicate with the root of the Spanning Tree. This is the time since the spanning tree was last reconfigured. See Section 11. 1. 5 on page 104 for more information on MSTP. Figure 62 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > MSTP 114 MGS-3712/MGS-3012F User's Guide Chapter 11 Spanning Tree Protocol The following table describes the labels in this screen. Table 29 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > MSTP LABEL Status Active DESCRIPTION Click Status to display the MSTP Status screen (see Figure 63 on page 117). Clear this checkbox to disable MSTP on the Switch. Note: You must also activate Multiple Spanning Tree in the Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > Configuration screen to enable MSTP on the Switch. Hello Time This is the time interval in seconds between BPDU (Bridge Protocol Data Units) configuration message generations by the root switch. This is the maximum time (in seconds) the Switch can wait without receiving a BPDU before attempting to reconfigure. All Switch ports (except for designated ports) should receive BPDUs at regular intervals. Any port that ages out STP information (provided in the last BPDU) becomes the designated port for the attached LAN. If it is a root port, a new root port is selected from among the Switch ports attached to the network. This is the maximum time (in seconds) the Switch will wait before changing states. This delay is required because every switch must receive information about topology changes before it starts to forward frames. In addition, each port needs time to listen for conflicting information that would make it return to a blocking state; otherwise, temporary data loops might result. As a general rule: MaxAge Forwarding Delay Note: 2 * (Forward Delay - 1) >= Max Age >= 2 * (Hello Time + 1) Maximum hops Configuration Name Revision Number Apply Enter the number of hops (between 1 and 255) in an MSTP region before the BPDU is discarded and the port information is aged. Devices must have the same revision number to belong to the same region. Click Apply to save your changes to the Switch's run-time memory. The Switch loses these changes if it is turned off or loses power, so use the Save link on the top navigation panel to save your changes to the non-volatile memory when you are done configuring. Use this section to configure MSTI (Multiple Spanning Tree Instance) settings. Enter the number you want to use to identify this MST instance on the Switch. Set the priority of the Switch for the specific spanning tree instance. The lower the number, the more likely the Switch will be chosen as the root bridge within the spanning tree instance.
