You should have at least a basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts and topology. Related Documentation · Quick Start Guide The Quick Start Guide contains information on setting up your hardware. · Web Configurator Online Help Embedded web help for descriptions of individual screens and supplementary information. [. . . ] In an MSTP-enabled network, there is only one CIST that runs between MST regions and single spanning tree devices. A network may contain multiple MST regions and other network segments running RSTP. Figure 52 MSTP and Legacy RSTP Network Example ES-2108 Series User's Guide 105 Chapter 11 Spanning Tree Protocol 11. 2 Spanning Tree Protocol Status Screen The Spanning Tree Protocol status screen changes depending on what standard you choose to implement on your network. Click Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol to see the screen as shown. Figure 53 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol This screen differs depending on which STP mode (RSTP or MSTP) you configure on the Switch. This screen is described in detail in the section that follows the configuration section for each STP mode. Click Configuration to activate one of the STP standards on the Switch. 11. 3 Spanning Tree Configuration Use the Spanning Tree Configuration screen to activate one of the STP modes on the Switch. Click Configuration in the Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol. Figure 54 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > Configuration The following table describes the labels in this screen. Table 24 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > Configuration LABEL Spanning Tree Mode Apply DESCRIPTION You can activate one of the STP modes on the Switch. Click Apply to save your changes to the Switch's run-time memory. The Switch loses these changes if it is turned off or loses power, so use the Save link on the top navigation panel to save your changes to the non-volatile memory when you are done configuring. Click Cancel to begin configuring this screen afresh. Click the RSTP link in the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol Status screen to display the screen shown next. Figure 55 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > RSTP The following table describes the labels in this screen. Table 25 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > RSTP LABEL Status Active Bridge Priority DESCRIPTION Click Status to display the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol Status screen (see Figure 56 on page 109). Bridge priority is used in determining the root switch, root port and designated port. The switch with the highest priority (lowest numeric value) becomes the STP root switch. If all switches have the same priority, the switch with the lowest MAC address will then become the root switch. The lower the numeric value you assign, the higher the priority for this bridge. Bridge Priority determines the root bridge, which in turn determines Hello Time, Max Age and Forwarding Delay. This is the time interval in seconds between BPDU (Bridge Protocol Data Units) configuration message generations by the root switch. The allowed range is 1 to 10 seconds. Hello Time ES-2108 Series User's Guide 107 Chapter 11 Spanning Tree Protocol Table 25 Advanced Application > Spanning Tree Protocol > RSTP (continued) LABEL Max Age DESCRIPTION This is the maximum time (in seconds) a switch can wait without receiving a BPDU before attempting to reconfigure. All switch ports (except for designated ports) should receive BPDUs at regular intervals. Any port that ages out STP information (provided in the last BPDU) becomes the designated port for the attached LAN. If it is a root port, a new root port is selected from among the switch ports attached to the network. This is the maximum time (in seconds) a switch will wait before changing states. This delay is required because every switch must receive information about topology changes before it starts to forward frames.
