[. . . ] Remove the engine oil filler cap and drain bolt to drain the oil from the crankcase. 1 2 3 1 1 1. Engine oil filler cap CAUTION: When removing the engine oil drain bolt, the O-ring, compression spring, and oil strainer will fall out. If the engine oil is below the minimum level mark, add sufficient oil of the recommended type to raise it to the correct level. To change the engine oil (with or without oil filter element cleaning) 1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. Place an oil pan under the engine 6-8 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 3 1 2 1 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1. NOTE: Check the oil filter element for damage and replace it if necessary. Install the oil filter element cover by installing the bolts and the drain bolt, then tightening them to the specified torques. Tightening torques: Oil filter element cover bolt: 10 Nm (1. 0 m·kgf, 7. 2 ft·lbf) Oil filter element drain bolt: 10 Nm (1. 0 m·kgf, 7. 2 ft·lbf) NOTE: Make sure that the O-rings are properly seated. NOTE: Skip steps 4­9 if the oil filter element is not being cleaned. Remove the oil filter element drain bolt to drain the oil from the oil filter element. 5. Clean the oil strainer with solvent, and then check it for damage and replace it if necessary. To increase the engine idling speed, turn the screw in di6-12 rection (a). To decrease the engine idling speed, turn the screw in direction (b). 1 2 (a) (b) 1. Throttle stop screw 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 CAUTION: The carburetor has been set and extensively tested at the Yamaha factory. Changing these settings without sufficient technical knowledge may result in poor performance of or damage to the engine. Engine idling speed: 1350­1550 r/min NOTE: If the specified idling speed cannot be obtained as described above, have a Yamaha dealer make the adjustment. PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR EAU21380 EAU21400 EAU21570 Adjusting the throttle cable free play 1 2 Adjusting the valve clearance The valve clearance changes with use, resulting in improper air-fuel mixture and/or engine noise. To prevent this from occurring, the valve clearance must be adjusted by a Yamaha dealer at the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance and lubrication chart. Tires To maximize the performance, durability, and safe operation of your motorcycle, note the following points regarding the specified tires. Tire air pressure The tire air pressure should be checked and, if necessary, adjusted before each ride. EWA10500 1 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1. Throttle cable free play G The throttle cable free play should measure at the throttle grip. Periodically check the throttle cable free play and, if necessary, have a Yamaha dealer adjust it. G WARNING The tire air pressure must be checked and adjusted on cold tires (i. e. , when the temperature of the tires equals the ambient temperature). The tire air pressure must be adjusted in accordance with the riding speed and with the total weight of rider, passenger, cargo, and accessories approved for this model. 6-13 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR Tire air pressure (measured on cold tires): 0­90 kg (0­198 lb) : Front: 125 kPa (18 psi) (1. 25 kgf/cm2) Rear: 125 kPa (18 psi) (1. 25 kgf/cm2) 90­180 kg (198­397 lb) : Front: 150 kPa (22 psi) (1. 50 kgf/cm2) Rear: 175 kPa (25 psi) (1. 75 kgf/cm2) Off-road riding: Front: 125 kPa (18 psi) (1. 25 kgf/cm2) Rear: 125 kPa (18 psi) (1. 25 kgf/cm2) Maximum load*: 180 kg (397 lb) * Total weight of rider, passenger, cargo and accessories EWA10530 safety. Securely pack your heaviest items close to the center of the motorcycle, and distribute the weight evenly from side to side. Make sure the total weight of the cargo, rider, passenger, and accessories (fairing, saddlebags, etc. [. . . ] Use a chrome polish to shine chrome, aluminum and stainless-steel parts, including the exhaust system. (Even the thermally induced discoloring of stainless-steel exhaust systems can be removed through polishing. ) 4. To prevent corrosion, it is recommended to apply a corrosion pro7-2 tection spray on all metal, including chrome- and nickel-plated, surfaces.
