[. . . ] Owner's Manual EN SPECIAL MESSAGE SECTION This product utilizes batteries or an external power supply (adapter). DO NOT connect this product to any power supply or adapter other than one described in the manual, on the name plate, or specifically recommended by Yamaha. WARNING: Do not place this product in a position where anyone could walk on, trip over, or roll anything over power or connecting cords of any kind. If you must use an extension cord, the minimum wire size for a 25' cord (or less) is 18 AWG. [. . . ] In this way, you can combine similar Voices to create a thicker sound. 1 Press two Voice buttons simultaneously to engage Dual. NOTE Dual mode cannot be used with two Voices of the single Voice button (for example, strings and vibraphone). NOTE The Voice assigned to the left side button will be designated as Voice 1, and the Voice assigned to the right side button will be designated as Voice 2. Using Variation Voices in Dual mode Reverb in Dual The reverb type assigned to Voice 1 will take priority. If the reverb assigned to Voice 1 is set to OFF, the reverb assigned to Voice 2 will be in effect. NOTE To select a Variation Voice in Dual mode, first select the desired Voice, then press the [VARIATION] button. If either of the Voices is a Variation Voice, the [VARIATION] indicator lights. To use (or cancel) Variation for both Voices, simply press the [VARIATION] button so that the indicator lights (or goes off). Refer to "Selecting Voices" on page 10 for more information on the Voices that are assigned to the [VARIATION] button. 2 To exit from Dual, press one of the Voice buttons. Setting the Octave While holding down the [VARIATION] button, press one of the C4 ­ D4 keys to shift the pitch up or down in octave steps for Voice 1. While holding down the [VARIATION] button, press one of the D#4 ­ F4 keys to shift the pitch up or down in octave steps for Voice 2. Voice 1 Voice 2 NP-31 NP-11 C4 F4 C5 C6 C4 Voice 1 C#4 D4 -1 0 +1 Voice 2 D#4 E4 F4 -1 0 +1 Setting the Volume Balance While hold down the [VARIATION] button, press one of the F#4 ­ F#5 keys (see the illustration) to adjust the volume balance between two Voices. A setting of "0" produces equal balance between Voices 1 and 2. Values below "0" (to "-6") decrease the volume of Voice 1 and increase the volume of Voice 2; values above "0" (to "6") increase the volume of Voice 1 and decrease the volume of Voice 2. NP-31 NP-11 F#4 (-6) F#5 (+6) C4 C5 (0) C6 NP-31/NP-11 Owner's Manual 11 Listening to the Voice Demo Songs The instrument features special Voice Demo Songs that effectively showcase each of the Voices. 1 While holding down the [DEMO] button, press one of the Voice buttons to start the Voice Demo Song. The Songs provided for each Voice will play back in sequence. NOTE Refer to the Voice list on page 10 for more information on the characteristics of each preset Voice. NOTE The Voice Demo Songs are not transmitted via MIDI. NOTE Simply pressing the [DEMO] button starts the Demo Song sequence from the Grand Piano 1 Voice. NOTE Changing a Voice Demo Song During playback, you can change the Voice Demo Song by pressing a different Voice button. In addition, you can select a different Voice Demo Song for the Variation Voice by pressing the [VARIATION] button. The Voice Demo Song List Voice Name Harpsichord 1 Harpsichord 2 Gavotte Invention No. Bach The [VARIATION] indicator is lit while the Demo Song of the Variation Voice is playing back. NOTE You can adjust the tempo of the Voice Demo Song during playback. For instructions on setting the tempo, see page 14. The demonstration pieces listed above are short rearranged excerpts of the original compositions. All other songs are original (© 2011 Yamaha Corporation). 2 Press the [DEMO] button to stop playback. 12 NP-31/NP-11 Owner's Manual Listening to the Piano Demo Songs The instrument provides Piano Demo Songs as well as Voice Demo Songs, for your listening pleasure. 1 While holding down the [DEMO] button, press one of the 1 ­ 10 (C#1 ­ A#1) keys to start the desired Song. The Piano Demo Songs are assigned to the 1 ­ 10 (C#1 ­ A#1) keys. The selected Piano Preset Song will play back followed by the rest of the Songs in sequence. NP-31 NP-11 NOTE You can play the keyboard along with the Piano Demo Song. You can also change the Voice for playing on the keyboard. NOTE C#1 A#1 When you select a different Song (or a different Song is selected during chained playback), an appropriate reverb type will be selected accordingly. NOTE C1 C2 You can adjust the tempo of the Piano Demo Song during playback. For instructions on setting the tempo, see page 14. NP-31/NP-11 Owner's Manual 13 Using the Metronome This instrument features a built-in metronome (a device that keeps an accurate tempo) that is convenient for practicing. 1 2 Press the [METRONOME ON/OFF] button to start the Metronome. Press the [METRONOME ON/OFF] button to stop the Metronome. Setting the Beat While holding down the [METRONOME ON/OFF] button, use the BEAT [<] button or the BEAT [>] button to select the Beat from 0, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The first Beat is accented with a bell sound and the rest with clicks. In this setting, clicks sound for all beats. TERMINOLOGY Default setting: The "Default setting" refers to the factory setting obtained when you first turn on the power to the instrument. The beat can also be changed by the following operation.
