[. . . ] (See page 37. ) 41 Selecting and Playing Styles Accompaniment Sections (Main A/B and Fill-ins) While the style is playing, you can add variation in the rhythm/accompaniment by pressing the [MAIN/AUTO FILL] button. This switches between the Main A and Main B sections, automatically playing a fill-in pattern to smoothly lead into the next section. For example, if the Main A section is currently playing, pressing this button automatically plays a fill-in pattern, followed by the Main B section. (See illustration below. ) You can also select either the Main A or B section to start by pressing the [MAIN/ AUTO FILL] button before starting the style. · Rhythm sounds and fill-in sections are not available when one ofthePianiststyles(#124-#135) are selected. Adjusting the Style Volume The playback volume of the style can be adjusted in the Function mode (page 76). The volume range is 000 127. · StyleVolumecannotbechanged unless the Style mode is active. 42 Selecting and Playing Styles Using Auto Accompaniment -- Multi Fingering When it is set to on (page 36), the auto accompaniment function automatically generates bass and chord accompaniment for you to play along with, by using Multi Fingering operation. You can change the chords of the accompaniment by playing keys in the auto accompaniment area of the keyboard using either the "Single Finger" or "Fingered" method. With Single Finger you can simply play a one-, two- or three-finger chord indication (see Single Finger Chords below). The Fingered technique is that of conventionally playing all the notes of the chord. Whichever method you use, the DGX-230 "understands" what chord you indicate and then automatically generates the accompaniment. I Single Finger Chords · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Chords that can be produced in Single Finger operation are major, minor, seventh and minor seventh. (The key of C is used here as an example; other keys follow the same rules. The use of intervals and chords is one of the most important elements in music. A wide variety of emotions and feelings can be created depending on the types of chords used and the order in which they are arranged. · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Writing Chord Names · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · Knowing how to read and write chord names is an easy yet invaluable skill. Chords are often written in a kind of shorthand that makes them instantly recognizable (and gives you the freedom to play them with the voicing or inversion that you prefer). Once you understand the basic principles of harmony and chords, it's very simple to use this shorthand to write out the chords of a song. If you need to specify sharp or flat, indicate that to the right of the root. Examples for the key of C are shown below. Major chord Minor chord Augmented chord Diminished chord C Cm Caug Cdim For simple major chords, the type is omitted. One important point: Chords are made up of notes "stacked" on top of each other, and the stacked notes are indicated in the chord name of the chord type as a number -- the number being the distance of the note from the root.
