[. . . ] 1 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When using your telephone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including the following: Read and understand all instructions. Do not use this product near water (for example, near a bath tub, kitchen sink, or swimming pool). Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for ventilation. To protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked by placing the product on the bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. [. . . ] While the message plays, the Message Window displays the number of the message. After playing the last message in a mailbox, the system announces "End of messages. " If the system has less than five minutes of recording time left, it announces the remaining time. Message Window Adjust Playback Volume System beeps three times at hightest or lowest setting. Press to skip to the next message; hold to speed up playback. Play Messages press to play message in a mailbox. Press again to stop playback. Press to repeat a message; hold to slow down playback. Delete Messages . To delete all messages in a mailbox, press and hold DELETE You will be prompted to choose a mailbox . To delete a message in a mailbox, press DELETE while the message is playing. NOTE . You cannot delete a message until its been reviewed; deleted messages cannot be recovered. 23 ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERATION AT THE BASE Call Screening/Intercept 1 Make sure the answering system is on, and set the message playback volume control above level 1 so you can hear the caller's message. 2 If you decide to take the call, pressTALK / FLASH on the handset. 3 If you pick up an extension phone during the announcement and the announcement does not stop right away, press and release the telephone switchhook. Record a Memo You can record a memo up to four minutes long to store as an incoming message. 3 To stop recording, press the MAIL BOX button again. Message Window Display Window Displays: When: 0 1 - 98, flashing 0 - 99 99, flashing 1 ­ 99 1 ­ 8, steady for F No new messages in any mailbox Total number of messages in all mailboxes Memory is full, or total number of messages is 99 Duration of announcement or memo recording Length of recording is more than 99 seconds Current message number during message playback Indicates volume level selected when VOLUME + or VOLUME - is pressed Current Remote Access Code while setting Announce Only mode on or off Counting 1 to 99 one second 00 ­ 99 A ON or OFF, steady for Displayed when any setting is changed from one second CL normal display Clock needs to be set System is answering a call or is in remote operation System is in programming mode or initializing 24 --- , flashing ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERATION ACCESS FROM A REMOTE LOCATION Connect with the Answering System You can access many features of this system remotely from a touch tone phone. 2 When the system answers, press # , then enter your Remote Access Code (preset to 19). 4 Press * 0 to exit remote operation. Voice Menu The system has voice prompts to help you with remote operation. Press * 5 to hear the menu while remotely connected to the answering system. Remote Access Commands Function: Play messages in a mailbox Command: Press # , then the appropriate mailbox number ( 1 , 2 , or 3 ). Press # 4 while message is playing; each press backs up another message. Press # 6 while message is playing; each press advances another message. System plays back announcement. 25 Repeat a message Skip a message Stop Save messages Delete message Review announcement Record announcement ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERATION ACCESS FROM A REMOTE LOCATION Remote Access Commands (continued) Function: Command: Function: Command: Record memo Press * 8 ; then mailbox number whereyou want memo recorded; speak after beep; press # 5 to exit. Press # 0 ; the system announces, "Answering Machine Off. " Press # 0 again to turn the system back on. When system is off, it answers after 10 rings and announces, "Please enter your remote access code. " Press # , then enter your remote access code. End remote access call Turn system off Turn system on NOTE: Remote access will automatically end if 20 seconds go by with no key presses. (other than when recording or playing messages or announcements). 26 BATTERIES Charge the Handset Battery Pack · The battery pack needs charging when: -- A new battery is installed in the handset. You can keep the battery fully charged by returning the handset to the base after each use. If you repeatedly get a low battery indicator, even after charging overnight, the battery should be replaced. · · · CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons or damage to the telephone, read and follow these instructions carefully: Charge the battery provided with or identified for use with this product only in accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in the User's Manual. 27 BATTERIES Replacing the Handset Battery Pack 1 Remove the battery compartment cover on the handset by 2 3 pressing on the indentation and sliding the cover downward. Align the two holes in the new battery pack's plug with the socket pins, and snap the plug into place. Place the battery pack in the compartment with the wires in the lower left corner, along the bottom of the battery pack. Place the Handset in the base and allow it to charge for at least 12 hours for the first time. [. . . ] If so, you will be given advance notice of the change to give you an opportunity to maintain uninterrupted service. If it is determined that your telephone equipment is malfunctioning, the FCC requires that it not be used and that it be unplugged from the modular jack until the problem has been corrected. Repairs to this telephone equipment can only be made by the manufacturer or its authorized agents or by others who may be authorized by the FCC.
