[. . . ] Adjusting the Sound (Key Beeps) Your radio emits a beep each time one of the buttons or keys (except for the PTT button and call/sel key) are pressed. To turn this sound OFF, press and hold call/sel while turning ON the radio. Navigating through the Menu To access the advanced features of the GMR635-2/GMR635-2CK, your radio has a Menu function. Normal Call Tone Key Lock Normal Talking on Your Radio To talk to others using the radio: 1) Press and hold the PTT button and speak in a clear, normal voice about 2-3 inches away from the microphone. To avoid cutting off the first part of your transmission, pause slightly after pressing the PTT button before you start talking. [. . . ] 2) Set the charging cradle on the desk or tabletop, and place the radio in the charging cradle with the keypad facing forward. Charge the battery pack for 16 hours and remove the radio from the charging cradle after charge. Note: The charge indicator LED's will remain on as long as the radios are left in the charger. * Range may vary depending on environmental and/or topographical conditions. If you have any questions you can contact the FCC direct at 1-888-225-5322. 1-5 ON-OFF INSTALL THE BATTERIES Your GMR635-2/GMR635-2CK radio uses the NiMH battery pack(included in GMR635-2CK) or 4 AAA alkaline batteries (not included). If alkaline batteries are used, we recommend using high quality alkaline batteries. To install the NiMH battery pack: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Antenna PTT (Push-To-Talk) Button Monitor Key Channel/Scan Up Key Channel/Scan Down Key Speaker Call/Select Key Volume Up Key Power Key Volume Down Key 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 Charging LED's Battery Level Meter Receive Indicator Scan Indicator Channel Indicator Volume Setting Indicator GMRS/FRS Indicator Transmit Indicator Call Indicator Keypad Lock Indicator 1) Make sure your radio is OFF. 2) Remove the battery compartment door by pushing up the tab at the bottom of the compartment door allowing the door to be removed. 3) Place the NiMH battery pack in the compartment, making sure that the charge contacts are on the lower half of the battery pack and facing out. If the NiMH battery pack is installed incorrectly, the radio will not operate. 4) Replace the battery compartment door. 1) To enter the Menu, press and hold the call/sel key. 2) Additional presses of the call/sel key will advance you through the Menu until exiting to "Normal" operating mode. Wait 10 seconds until the unit automatically returns to "Normal" mode. Choosing a Channel Your radio has 22 channels you can use to talk to others. In order to speak to someone, each of you must be set to the same channel. To choose a channel: With the radio in "Normal" operating mode press the ch/scan L or M key to increase or decrease the channel number displayed. Channels 15-22 have an expectancy range of up to 6 miles. BATTERY LEVEL AND LOW BATTERY ALERT This unit has a battery level meter on the display to indicate the status of the batteries. When the batteries in the unit are low, the battery level meter icon will flash. Replace the alkaline batteries immediately or if you are using the NiMH battery pack, you must recharge the battery in order to continue using the radio. To avoid the risk of personal injury or property damage from fire or electrical shock, only use the Uniden accessories specifically designated for this product. Keypad Lock To Lock the keypad: 1) Enter the Menu. 2) To switch the key Lock mode from OFF to ON, press the ch/scan L key.
