[. . . ] You can change this parameter only if Field = Direction. Direction Field at x= Using the Text Tool to Enter Functions You can graph a function, including a function of the form ?y=, " by typing the expression into a text box. Graphs & Geometry graphs the function. Graphs & Geometry 273 Regardless of how you specify a function, each function is labeled for identification. Graphing Inequalities You can use the entry line for the Function graph type to define a function that uses a symbol other than the equal sign. Note: You can also type two symbols, such as > and = to express greater than or equal or use the catalogue?s Symbol Palette to choose from the inequality symbols: >, <, { and |. Type the rest of the inequality expression and press to graph the expression. The expression, as typed, is displayed when you hover at the boundary of the graph. The shading on the graphs of inequalities shows the values that satisfy the inequality. If you graph two inequalities that overlap, the area of overlap is shaded darker than either of the individual inequality graphs. Renaming f(x) The default naming convention for functions is fn(x). (The number represented by n increases as you specify more functions. ) You can replace the default name with a name of your choice. Type the letters/numbers for the system you want to use, and then type the function that you want to graph. 4. Notice that the label shown next to the graph is identical to what you entered. Note: To continue the custom naming convention, you must manually rename each function as you enter it. Editing Functions You can edit graphed functions, one function at a time. or press to move to The expression is displayed in a text box or in the entry line. Graphs & Geometry 275 2. Note: Any geometric constructions created while in the Plane Geometry View are retained and displayed along with any previously created graphs. Creating an Object in Plane Geometry View You can choose Geometry on an empty page of a document to work in Plane Geometry View. The shapes, points and lines you create while in this view are geometric objects. Geometric objects can have an assigned scale, such as centimetres, instead of u for units (as used with Graphing View). When working in modelling mode (that is, in Plane Geometry View with an analytic window), you can move a geometric object into the graphing work area. The object remains a geometric object, and is not associated with the axes. For example, you can move a vertex of a triangle, but because the object is not tied to a coordinate plane, no coordinates are displayed for the vertex. The examples below show a modelling work area and the two types of objects: A is an analytic object while B is a geometric object. Graphs & Geometry 283 Although the two circles appear to be identical, they do not behave in the same way. Notice that only Circle A?s appearance is affected by the change. If you create an object with the axis hidden, the object is a geometric object. However, if you create an analytic object and later hide the axis, the object remains an analytical one. Triangle as it appears in Graphing View. The unlabeled vertex remains a geometric point. 284 Graphs & Geometry Using the Analytic Window The analytic (graphing) window is available in the Plane Geometry View. It adds an analytic (graphing) window on top of a portion of the plane geometry work area. [. . . ] Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file, and then click Save As.
