Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] Intel and Pentium are registered trademarks and Centrino is a trademark of Intel Corporation or its subsidiaries in the United States and other countries. IBM, IBM PC AT, and IBM PS/2 are registered trademarks of IBM Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both. MS, MS-DOS, and Windows are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries. PCMCIA is a trademark of the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association. [. . . ] Network key Data that is used for encrypting data in data communication. The personal computer uses the same network key both for data encryption and decryption, therefore, it is necessary to set the same network key as the other side of communication. Network name (SSID: Security Set Identifier) When a wireless LAN network is configured, grouping is performed to avoid interference or data theft. In order to improve security, the network key is set allowing no communication unless "Network name (SSID)" coincides with the network key. Open system authentication Null authentication method specified in the 802. 11 standard that performs no authentication checks on a wireless client before allowing it to associate. PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) A method of allowing the authentication protocol adopted in telephone line connection (PPP) to be used over an Ethernet. Ordered data communication is allowed by making all conditions required for communication including the method of data transmission/reception and actions upon communication errors into procedures. 58 W I r e l e s s L A N U s e r 's G u i d e Shared key authentication 802. 11 network authentication method in which the AP sends the client device a challenge text packet that the client must then encrypt with the correct WEP key and return to the AP. If the client has the wrong key or no key, authentication will fail and the client will not be allowed to associate with the AP. Shared key authentication is not considered secure, because a hacker who detects both the clear-text challenge and the same challenge encrypted with a WEP key can decipher the WEP key. SSID (Service Set Identifier) Service Set Identifier, a 32-character unique identifier attached to the header of packets sent over a WLAN that acts as a password when a mobile device tries to connect to the BSS. The SSID differentiates one WLAN from another, so all access points and all devices attempting to connect to a specific WLAN must use the same SSID. Unauthorized modification will void the equipment authorization from the FCC and Industry Canada and the warranty. WHAT IS BLUETOOTH Bluetooth technology is designed as a short-range wireless link between mobile devices, such as laptop computers, phones, printers, and cameras. Bluetooth technology is used to create Personal Area Networks (PANs) between devices in short-range of each other. The Wireless LAN/Bluetooth On/Off Switch will power off both the optional wireless LAN and Bluetooth devices at the same time. To enable or disable either one of the devices individually, perform the following steps: 1. In the window that appears, click the button associated with Bluetooth and/ or Wireless LAN Status to enable or disable the individual devices. Click [OK]. WHERE TO FIND INFORMATION ABOUT BLUETOOTH The Bluetooth module contains a robust Help user's guide to assist you in learning about operation of the Bluetooth device. To access the Help file, click [Start] -> All Programs, and click on Toshiba. For additional information about Bluetooth Technology, visit the Bluetooth Web site at: www. bluetooth. com. 62 6 Troubleshooting 63 LifeBook P7000 Notebook Section Six 64 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Your Fujitsu LifeBook notebook is sturdy and subject to few problems in the field. However, you may encounter simple setup or operating problems that you can solve on the spot, or problems with peripheral devices, that you can solve by replacing the device. The information in this section helps you isolate and resolve some of these straightforward problems and identify failures that require service. If you keep notes about what you have tried, your support representative may be able to help you more quickly by giving additional suggestions over the phone. IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM If you encounter a problem, go through the following procedure before pursuing complex troubleshooting: 1. Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into your notebook and to an active AC power source. Make sure that any card inserted in the PC Card slot is seated properly. [. . . ] The details of each setting under the Audio Settings and Taskbar Tips interfaces are self-explanatory. For the procedure to enroll and authentication device refer to Chapter 2. 3.
