Microphone level The change the microphone gain, follow the steps below. Click start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment and click Volume Control. Check the Microphone Boost checkbox. Modem This section describes how to connect and disconnect the internal modem to and from a telephone jack. User's Manual 4-20 Operating Basics Region selection Telecommunication regulations vary from one region to another, so you will need to make sure the internal modem's settings are correct for the region in which it will be used. Click start, point to All Programs, TOSHIBA, Networking, and click Modem Region Select. Do not use the Country/Region Select function in the Modem setup utility in the Control Panel if the function is available. If you change the Country/ Region in the Control Panel, the change may not take effect. Click the icon with the primary mouse button to display a list of regions that the modem supports. A check will appear next to the currently selected region and telephony location. Select a region from the region menu or a telephony location from the sub-menu. When you click a region it becomes the modem's region selection, and the New Location for telephony will be set automatically. When you select a telephony location, the corresponding region is automatically selected and it becomes the modem's current region setting. Properties menu Click the icon with the secondary mouse button to display properties menu on the screen. Settings You can enable or disable the following settings: AutoRun Mode The Region Select utility starts automatically when you start up the operating system. Open the Dialing Properties dialog box after selecting region. The dialing properties dialog box will be displayed automatically after you select the region. Location list for region selection. A warning dialog box is displayed if current settings for region code and telephony location are incorrect. Modem Selection If the computer cannot recognize the internal modem, a dialog box is displayed. Select the COM port for your modem to use. Dialing Properties Select this item to display the dialing properties. If you are using the computer in Japan, the Telecommunications Business Law requires that you select Japan region mode. It is illegal to use the modem in Japan with any other selection. Connecting To connect the modem cable, follow the steps below. The modular cable that comes with the computer must be used to connect a modem. In case of a lightning storm, unplug the modem cable from the telephone jack. Plug the other end of the modular cable into a telephone jack. Connecting the internal modem Do not pull on the cable or move the computer while the cable is connected. If you use a storage device such as an optical drive or hard disk drive connected to a 16-bit PC Card, you might experience the following modem problems: Modem speed is slow or communication is interrupted.
