Before You Start. . . Before You Start. . . Switching on and off To switch your TomTom GO on or off, press and hold the On/Off button for 2 seconds. The first time you switch on, it may take a short while for your device to start. If this happens, press the reset button, then switch on the device again. Setting up To set up your TomTom GO you need to answer a few questions by tapping the screen. Important: Take care to select the correct language, since the language you choose will be used for all menus and written instructions. Battery notes We recommend that you fully charge your TomTom GO the first time that you connect it to the home dock. The following options are available: · Change voice - tap this button to change the voice that gives you instructions. A wide range of recorded human voices and computer voices are available. For more information on choosing a voice and the differences between human and computer voices, see Selecting a voice (17). · Disable voice - tap this button to disable the use of voices. · Speech preferences - tap this button to set the situations when your TomTom will read instructions or warnings aloud. · Record voice - tap this button to record your own voice for use by your TomTom. The procedure takes about fifteen minutes, during which time you will say all the commands that are used by your TomTom GO. In the Preferences menu, tap Voice preferences, then tap Record voice and follow the instructions for recording your voice. · Disable recorded voice · Enable recorded voice · Download voice - tap this button to download new voices from TomTom Services and transfer them to your TomTom. Voice preferences Turn off sound / Turn on sound Tap this button to turn off spoken instructions. If you turn off the sound, warnings for upcoming POIs are also turned off. Turn off sound Tips To change the volume, tap Volume preferences in the Preferences menu. To change the volume quickly while you are driving, tap the bottom lefthand section of the Driving View and move the slider. You can still listen to music even if you have turned off voice instructions. Can I still use my GO to make hands-free calls when the sound is turned off?Turning the sound off does not affect hands-free calling, meaning that you will still be able to talk to and hear the caller. 51 Volume preferences Tap this button to change the volume for spoken instructions. This setting does not change the volume of the radio, CDs, or music played from an iPod® or USB storage device. Volume preferences Can my GO change the volume depending on how noisy it is in the car?Select Link volume to noise level and your GO will change the volume according to the background noise. If there is a lot of noise in the car, your GO will automatically increase the volume. For example, if you are driving on the motorway, which is often very noisy, the volume level on your GO will be increased. When you are driving more slowly again, the volume level will be lowered by your GO. Manage Favorites Tap this button to rename or delete Favorites.
