Incorrect usage can, however, lead to personal injury and property damage. For safe handling of the appliance pay heed to the following safety information: RISK - ELECTRICAL SHOCK!–º Ensure that the base with the electrical connections NEVER comes into contact with water! [. . . ] –º Heat water only with the lid closed, otherwise the automatic switch-off cannot function. GB ► Ensure that the appliance is stood stably and vertically before switching it on. –º This appliance is not intended for use by individuals (including children) with restricted physical, physiological or intellectual abilities or deficiences in experience and/or knowledge unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or receive from this person instruction in how the appliance is to be used. –º Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. –º Do not use an external timing switch or a separate remote control system to operate the appliance. ► Never leave the appliance unsupervised whilst in use. –º Ensure that the appliance, the power cable and the plug do not come into contact with hot plates or open flames. Disposal of the packaging The packaging protects the appliance against transport damage. In such cases first allow the appliance to cool down before using it again. –º Before cleaning, ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket!This would increase the risk of a potentially fatal electric shock should liquids come into contact with powered components. –º Let the appliance cool sufficiently before cleaning it. These could attack the upper surfaces and irreparably damage the appliance. –  Clean the exterior surfaces and the power cable with a slightly damp cloth. Ensure that there are no detergent residues in and on the appliance before it is taken back into use. GB In the event of scale deposits: Scale deposits on the bottom of the appliance lead to increased energy consumption and reduce the service life of the appliance. –  Before descaling, remove the pourer sieve 6 (see chapter "Removing/ replacing the pourer sieve"). Proceed as detailed in the instructions provided for the use of the decalcifying agent. –  After descaling, rinse the appliance with lots of clean water. Dispose of the appliance through an approved disposal centre or at your community waste facility. 7 Liter Notes on the Declaration of Conformity This appliance complies, in regard to conformance with basic requirements and other relevent regulations, with the EMV Directive 2004/108/EC, as well as the Directive for Low Voltage Devices 2006/95/EC.
