IMPORTANT: Save these instructions for the Local Electrical Inspector's use. INSTALLER: Please leave these Installation Instructions with this unit for the owner. COLD WEATHER installations should have an additional backdraft damper installed to minimize backward cold air flow, and a nonmetallic thermal break to minimize conduction of outside temperatures, as part of the duct work. The break should be as close as possible to where the ducting enters the heated portion of the house. ¦ ¦ 3/8" ¦ 1-3/16" 3-1/4" x 10" Backdraft damper (supplied with VM410) DUCTING FOR VM410 Cut duct opening through the cabinet shelves to required sizes, use 3-1/4" x 10" rectangular duct, or use transition #1255-7 and a 7" round duct. See Figure 1. NOTE: Discharge collar is shipped with the ventilator. Recommended Installation Height -- Countertop to top of each VCH unit: Bottom of cabinet -- Over normal countertop cooktop or range, Thermador's Griddle'n Grill, etc. , 30" to 40", over indoor barbecue -- 40" to 48". Recommended for use only over conventional domestic gas or electric appliances. Not recommended for use over solid fuel fired barbecues. Filter may be washed in your dishwasher or washed in warm soapy water, rinse, drain and dry before installing. To Clean Motor and Blade Unit (VM410 only) -- Remove filter and disconnect plug. Loosen wing nut, swing hanger rod out of the way or scroll bracket and rotate blower until the mounting flanges come free. Do not use a dripping wet cloth as water may enter the motor and cause damage. To prevent distortion of wheels, always handle the blower by the handle -- not by the ends. To Clean Hood Surface -- Use only mild soap or detergent for cleaning all hood surfaces. Dry surfaces with cloth for maximum lustre. 1-3/4" Break Out Large Knockout Panel · · · Lamp Panels DUCTING FOR VR600 AND VR1000 To adapt these units for installation, break out the large knock out panels located at the top of the unit. For VR600 -- Use transition #1295-8, attach it to the top of the VCH unit through the holes. For VR1000 -- Use transition #1295-10, attach it to the top of the VCH unit through the holes. [. . . ] That way when heat, smoke, moisture, grease and cooking odors arise, they will be carried upward and forced outside, thereby minimizing their drift into other rooms. Drafts across the cooking surface from an open window, door, etc. , may cause the escape of heat, smoke, moisture, grease and cooking odors from the hood.
