Serial number: __________________ OWNER'S MANUAL IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS CAUTION: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT REMOVE COVER (OR BACK). The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated "dangerous voltage" within the product's enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons. [. . . ] This screen allows you to set 42 TASCAM LR-10 3­Preparation whether to use USB bus power (BUS POWER) or to connect the unit's storage to the computer (STORAGE). Using an AC adaptor (sold separately) Connect a TASCAM PS-P520 AC adaptor (sold separately), which is designed for the power requirements of this unit, to the DC IN 5V jack as shown in the illustration. Use the §/BROWSE button or ¶/MIC button to select BUS POWER and press the Á button to provide power from the computer USB port and open the Home Screen. NOTE If you connect to a computer by USB, power will be supplied from the USB bus even if batteries are also in the unit. TACAM PS-P520 (sold separately) DC plug AC outlet CAUTION Never use any adaptor other than the TASCAM PS-P520 AC adaptor (sold separately), because it is designed for the power requirements of this unit. Use of a different adaptor could cause malfunction, fire or electric shock. NOTE If batteries are installed and the AC adaptor is connected, power will be supplied from the AC adaptor. TASCAM LR-10 43 3­Preparation Startup and shutdown CAUTION Turn the volume of any monitoring system that is connected to this unit down completely before turning the unit's power ON or putting it into standby. Do not wear connected headphones when turning the unit's power ON or putting it into standby. Failure to follow these precautions could cause noise, which might damage speakers or harm your hearing. ® Startup Screen Home Screen Setting the power to standby When the power is ON, press and hold the [ª] button until the INSTRUMENTAL TRAINER/RECORDER screen appears. Turning the power on When the unit is in standby mode, press and hold the button until the TASCAM LR-10 startup screen opens. [ª] 44 TASCAM LR-10 3­Preparation Setting the date and time Using its internal clock, this unit remembers the date and time when a file is recorded. 2 Use the §/BROWSE and ¶/MIC buttons to select DATE/TIME, and press the Á or ¯ button. When using batteries, we recommend that you replace or recharge them before they completely lose power. 3 Use the Â/¯ buttons to move the cursor, and use the VALUE (+/­) buttons to change values. 4 Press the Á button to confirm the change and return to the MENU screen. NOTE You can set the unit to automatically add the date and time to file names. (See "Setting the file name format" on page 85. ) CAUTION The date and time setting can only be maintained for a few minutes when the unit is not powered by batteries, TASCAM LR-10 45 4­Connecting Connecting monitoring equipment Headphones Connecting with a computer By connecting this unit with a computer, you can transfer (copy) audio files (WAV or MP3 format) on the computer to the SD card in the unit, as well as erase files and work with folders on the card from the computer. Use the included USB cable to connect the USB port of this unit to a USB port on the computer. computer Powered monitor speakers or amplifier and speakers USB Connect headphones or a monitoring system (such as powered speakers or an amplifier and speakers) to this unit's /LINE OUT jack. CAUTION Before connecting headphones, use the OUTPUT (­) button to minimize the volume. Failure to do so could cause the sudden output of loud sounds, which might lead to hearing damage or other harm. When connected, the USB SELECT pop-up screen appears on the unit. To exchange data with the computer, use the §/BROWSE or ¶/MIC button to select STORAGE and press the Á button. (Select BUS POWER to power the unit from the computer USB bus. ) 46 TASCAM LR-10 4­Connecting This unit appears on the computer screen as an external drive named LR-10. Connecting an instrument In addition to the built-in microphone, this unit has a line in jack (stereo mini-jack) on its right side panel to which you can connect the outputs of keyboards and other instruments, as well as audio devices. The LR-10 drive contains MUSIC and UTILITY folders. Keyboard Disconnecting from a computer After using the correct procedures to dismount the LR-10 drive from your computer, disconnect the USB cable. Please refer to the operation manual for your computer system for instructions about the correct procedures for dismounting an external drive. NOTE · You can apply the built-in effects to sound input by the connected instrument and play along to a song playing back on the unit or its metronome. · To use an electric guitar or bass with this unit, connect the instrument first to an effect pedal or other device that has a headphones/line level output. TASCAM LR-10 47 5­Recording This unit can record a performance through the built-in mic or from a keyboard or similar instrument that is connected to the LINE IN jack. The audio file format used for recording is always 44. 1 kHz, 16-bit WAV. In addition, this unit can also mix the input signal and an audio file that is playing back and record both together (overdubbing). Use the §/BROWSE and ¶/MIC buttons to select the desired item.
