[. . . ] You can select among MP3 (44. 1/48 kHz, 32­320 kbps) and WAV (44. 1/48/96 kHz, 16/24-bit) audio recording formats. With this unit, you can mix and record a sound input through the built-in mic or one of the input jacks with an audio file that is played back using the overdubbing function. You can also record two files with different recording levels at the same time (dual recording). 3 Use the wheel to select FORMAT, and press the ¯ key or ENTER/MARK key. Selecting file format/sampling frequency, and maximum file size Select the audio file type that you want to record before you start recording. 2 Use the wheel to select REC SETTING, and press the ENTER/MARK key. REC SETTING screen appears. Set the file format from one of the following choices. WAV: 16bit (default), WAV 24bit MP3: 32kbps, 64kbps, 96kbps, 128kbps, 192kbps, 256kbps, 320kbps NOTE · Higher values provide better recording quality. · WAV files are higher quality than MP3 files, but they take up more space, so MP3 formats allow for longer recordings. 4 Press the  key to select the other item. NOTE · If the maximum set file size is exceeded during recording, the unit will automatically continue recording in a new file. · Depending on the file format, the amount of recording time will differ for the same file size. · Recording automatically stops if recording time exceeds 24 hours. Set the sampling frequency to one of the following options. 44, 1k (default), 48k, 96k 8 Press the Screen. /HOME [ª] key to return to the Home 6 Press the  key to select the other item. 7 Use the wheel to select SIZE, and press the ¯ key or ENTER/MARK key. Available recording time display The amount of time available for recording depends on the capacity of the SD card as well as the recording mode and sampling frequency settings. (See "Recording duration" on page 51. ) You can check the potential recording time determined by the SD card and various settings on the REC SETTING screen. Set the maximum file size to one of the following options. 64M, 128M, 256M, 512M, 1G, 2G (default) Recordable time 34 TASCAM DR-2d 4­Recording Set where to save the file Set the folder where recorded files are saved. If no setting is made, new recording files are placed in the MUSIC folder. GAIN: Set the mic input sensitivity as HIGH, MID, or LOW. Change it to HIGH if the input level is too low and to LOW if the input level is too high. TYPE: Select STEREO or MONO according to the type of connected microphone. If you select MONO, the left and right channels are combined into the same signal. POWER: This screen has the following setting items. When connecting a microphone that requires plug-in power set this to ON. The factory default is OFF. INPUT: Set the input source to microphone (MIC) or line (LINE). When MIC is selected, sets the input source as the built-in LOW CUT: The factory default setting of the low cut filter is OFF, but you can also select 40Hz, 80Hz or 120Hz as the cut-off frequency for a low cut filter. TASCAM DR-2d 35 4­Recording LEVEL CTRL: Use this to set the level control function. Set it to AUTO to have the DR-2d automatically adjust the input gain according to the input level. Set it to LMT to have the DR-2d automatically limit the input gain so that input level of loud sounds are reduced to prevent distortion. [. . . ] Erase unnecessary files or move them to your computer to make open space. The position selected for divide is not suitable (too close to the beginning or end of a track). The file is larger than the designated size or the recording time exceeded 24 hours. MP3 files cannot be divided.
