[. . . ] Interlocked range indicator AUTO OK indicator 16 English Mounting the Unit on the Camera Attaching the Light Emitting Section Select the adapter ring matching the filter diameter of your camera lens and fit the ring on the lens by screwing in the ring clockwise (Photo 1). Three adapter rings with thread diameters of 58 mm, 62 mm and 72 mm are provided with this unit so make sure you check the filter diameter of your camera lens by referring to the user's manual for the camera (or lens). Installing the Batteries Before installing the batteries, make sure the power switch is in the "OFF" position. Open the battery compartment by sliding it downward as shown by the arrow. Insert four new "AA"-size batteries into the battery compartment, ensuring that the polarity indications "+" and "-" are observed correctly. The unit will not operate properly if the batteries are installed incorrectly. Close the battery cover and set the power switch to the "ON" position. When the unit is switched on, it will start charging with a slight humming sound and the Ready lamp will come on when the unit is fully charged. To switch the power off, slide the switch to the "OFF" position. 5 * The battery cover may be come off when it is subjected to a strong force. 6 Slide downward. -2 Flap open. 1 Attaching the Power Supply Section 2 Align the tabs with the four grooves and push in until it snaps. IMPORTANT CAUTION Before attaching (or detaching) the power supply section to (or from) the camera, be sure to set the power switch to the "OFF" position. If your camera is a lens shutter type camera, firing will be synchronized with any shutter speed. 4 17 OP (Option) switch -------------------------------------- When the power switch is set to the "OP" position as shown in photo 6, the focusing lamps built into the four corners of the light emitting section light continuously. This light can be used as AF auxiliary lighting under low light or as auxiliary lighting when a strobe light would be too strong to use. Focusing Lamps The unit has four focusing lamps to support focusing. When the LAMP button on the power supply section or on the back of the light emitting section is pressed (both buttons are shown in photo on right), the focusing lamps light for about 30 seconds, then turn off again. However, if the flash is emitted within 30 seconds, the focusing lamps automatically turn off immediately before firing. The focusing lamps can also be turned off by pressing the LAMP button again. The focusing lamps are designed for use under low light when the AF might have difficulty obtaining focus, but they can also be used to shoot pictures using their light alone. In the latter case, do not press the LAMP button but set the power switch to the "OP" position. [. . . ] To set the frequency, press the SEL button so that "Hz" blinks and turn the rotary dial to select the desired value. After this, press the SEL button so that the "Flash" value blinks and then set the number of flashes. The number of successive flashes can basically be selected between 2 and 99 but it depends on the firing power and frequency. Other operations in this mode are identical to the Manual mode.
