Assigning an Application to Your Finger To use the application launcher feature, you must assign an application to the enrolled fingers in advance. To assign an application to your finger 1 2 3 4 5 Click Start, All Programs, Protector Suite QL, and Control Center. Swipe the finger with the enrolled fingerprint across the fingerprint sensor. To add an assignment, you need at least two enrolled fingers left unassigned. To display the menu, you need at least one enrolled finger kept unassigned. 6 Select one of your enrolled fingers and assign an application and click OK. n 120 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Launching an Application with Your Finger Swipe your finger with your desired application assignment across the fingerprint sensor to launch the corresponding application. Swiping the finger with no application assignment across the fingerprint sensor will display the menu. Changing an Application Assignment to Your Finger To change an application assignment to your finger 1 2 3 4 5 6 Click Start, All Programs, Protector Suite QL, and Control Center. Swipe the finger with the enrolled fingerprint across the fingerprint sensor. Click OK. n 122 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Using Fingerprint Authentication with the TPM With the TPM data encryption feature, using fingerprint authentication can strengthen computer security. Sony assumes no liabilities for any problems and damages arising out of your use of the functions. After you have installed the Infineon TPM Professional Package, you need to set a few TPM passwords on your computer. Without these passwords, you will not be able to restore any TPM-protected data. Make sure to write down the passwords and keep them safe and private from other people. Make sure to make backup copies of the latest emergency recovery archive file, emergency recovery token file, password reset token file, and personal secret file and keep them safe and private from other people before sending your computer for repair. The data stored in the TPM that is embedded on the motherboard may be lost or corrupted during the course of repair. During the course of repair, the TPM may be replaced even if there are no problems with the modules. In such a case, use the backup copies of the emergency recovery archive file, emergency recovery token file, password reset token file, and personal secret file to restore the TPM configuration. Make sure to make a backup copy of the data stored on the hard disk before sending your computer for repair. The hard disk may be initialized and returned after the repair work and, in such a case, you will not be able to restore the data on the hard disk using the backup copies of the emergency recovery archive file, emergency recovery token file, password reset token file, and personal secret file. n 128 N Customizing Your VAIO Computer Make sure you set up the automatic backup operations after completing the TPM initialization wizard. If the window containing the Run automatic backup now check box is displayed after the setup, select the check box and update the backup files.
