Getting to know your machine Faites connaissance avec votre machine Needle position selector: The needle can be moved from the center position to either the right or left position. This is helpful when inserting zippers or cording, and when topstitching. Needle thread tension knob: This control determines the amount of pressure on the needle thread as it passes through the machine. [. . . ] Turn handwheel counter clockwise until the needle is in the highest position. To replace the needle, place flat side of the needle to the back, and push needle all the way up. Turn handwheel counter clockwise until the needle is in the highest position. Turn handwheel counter clockwise until the needle is in the highest position. Using a screwdriver, turn the screw counter-clockwise to loosen presser foot screw. Align the presser foot holder and presser foot screw with the opening in the presser bar. They should be uncovered for all general sewing purposes and covered for darning, embroidery and monogramming. It is easier to attach and remove the feed cover plate when the foot and shank are removed. Cover the feed dogs with the clear feed cover plate by aligning the cover with the openings on the bobbin visor. To remove the feed cover plate, slide finger nail under the cover and push up. Turn handwheel counter clockwise until the needle is in the highest position. Note: Any of the three needle positions can be selected when sewing a straight stitch. For a very close stitch, set the Stitch Length dial at a smaller number, such as "2". Turn the handwheel toward you with your right hand, first lowering the needle and continuing until the needle comes to its highest position. Lightly pull up the needle thread, and pick up the bobbin thread which will appear through the needle plate slot. Then pull both threads to the back of the machine, leaving a 6" thread tail. Turn handwheel counter clockwise until the needle is in the highest position. Note: Any of the three needle positions can be selected when sewing a straight stitch. Turn handwheel counter clockwise until the needle is in the highest position, raise the presser foot lifter and slide fabric from under the presser foot. Turn handwheel counter clockwise until the needle is in the highest position. For a very close stitch, set the Stitch Length dial at a smaller number, such as "2".
