[. . . ] INSTRUCTION MANUAL VPC-AZ3EX VPC-AZ3 Digital Camera Important note This manual explains how to safely operate the VPC-AZ3EX and VPC-AZ3. Any information regarding only one of these products will be labeled as such. Please read these instructions carefully before using the digital camera. Make sure to read and understand the section "USING YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA SAFELY AND CORRECTLY" on pages 7 to 23. [. . . ] Spot light-measuring : You can compose the picture and capture the image after first measuring the light only at the center spot of the LCD monitor. 1 2 Display a Shooting Setting Screen (see page 39). Select a light-measuring mode from the light-measuring mode (EXP MEASURE) menu. V: Multi-section light-measuring X: Center light-measuring W: Spot light-measuring Press the SET button oe This completes the light-measuring mode setting. oe When spot light-measuring is selected, the light-measuring spot mark K appears in the center of the LCD monitor. B 12 EXP MEASURE MULTI 14 3 3. 1 1/50 Light-measuring spot mark HINT Shooting with the spot light-measuring mode oe Point the camera so that the light-measuring spot mark is centered on the specific spot you wish to use to measure the light, and press the shutter release button halfway. Keeping the shutter release button depressed halfway, compose the picture and press the shutter release button all the way down to capture the image. 103 English WHITE BALANCE SETTING This digital camera automatically adjusts the white balance under most lighting conditions. However, if you want to specify the lighting conditions or change the overall tone of the image, the white balance can be manually set. 1 2 Display a Shooting Setting Screen (see page 39). H: The digital camera will make the white balance adjustment automatically based on the natural and artificial light conditions. S: For more accurate adjustment or when the light source cannot be specified. B 12 WHITE BALANCE AUTO English 104 Setting procedure 1 Select the S icon and press the SET button. 2 Fill the entire screen with a plain white card (or piece of paper, etc. ), and perform step 3. 3 Press the SET button. oe Once the white balance setting is programmed for the S icon, it is retained even if another white balance setting (H, g, h, e, or i) is selected. If you changed to another setting, whenever you select the S icon and press the SET button, the previously programmed setting is recalled. HINT To cancel the white balance setting oe Perform step 2, select H, and then press the SET button. NOTE To capture sepia-tone images oe In step 2 of step 2, instead of using a white card, use a blue card to set the white balance. You can experiment and get different results by changing the card color to program the white balance. 105 English ISO SENSITIVITY SETTING With the initial settings, the ISO sensitivity is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. However, the ISO sensitivity can be fixed at the equivalent of 100, 200, or 400. 1 2 Display a Shooting Setting Screen (see page 39). Ä: Sets the ISO sensitivity automatically (equivalent to ISO100 to 400). %: Sets the sensitivity to ISO400 equivalent. B 12 ISO AUTO 3 Press the SET button. oe This completes the ISO sensitivity setting. HINT oe By setting a higher ISO sensitivity, you can set higher shutter speeds and capture images in darker locations, but noise in the captured images may increase. English 106 SETTING THE EXPOSURE CONTROL By setting the shutter speed and aperture size, various exposure controls are possible. By changing the settings in accordance with the scene to be photographed, you can create the image that you want to express. The exposure control can be set in the still image shooting mode and sequential shots shooting mode. 1 2 Display the Still Image or Sequential Shots Shooting Setting Screen (see page 39). Ï: The optimum shutter speed and aperture size are set according to the brightness of the subject. (Aperture and shutter variable program AE) Example: For simple shooting with minimum setup, using the camera's automatic settings. B 12 EXP CONT/PROGRAM 2. 7 1/100 Î: This allows you to set a specific aperture size. The camera automatically sets an appropriate shutter speed based on this setting. [. . . ] If the camera is used when the internal temperature is elevated, it is more likely for the S icon (warning indicator for elevated temperature) to appear, and the usable time of the camera to become shorter. (See "Cautions concerning high temperatures" on page 24. ) Cautions when using the Microdrive oe When using the Microdrive continuously, the card will become very hot. oe When using the Microdrive, it will take a few seconds after the digital camera is turned on before the card can be used. oe It will take a great deal of time to download large amounts of data from the Microdrive to your computer.
