If you execute a write from the beginning of tape (BOT) when using an unrecorded tape, the tape drive defaults to native tape density. If you execute a write from the BOT when using a recorded tape, all pre-recorded data (and density changes) are lost. This includes density changes because they are established when writing from the BOT.
