The length is returned on MODE SENSE and must subsequently be set to the same value when performing MODE SELECT. The loop port is always participating and ignores all LPE and LPB primitives. The drive does not require receipt of an Address or Port Discovery following loop initialization. The drive participates in loop master arbitration in the normal manner. The drive attempts to acquire a soft address if it cannot obtain a hard address. The drive only enters the monitoring mode after it has gone through loop initialization. The drive performs an LIP and attempts to participate in the loop as soon as power is restored. The drive generates the initializing LIP after it successfully enables a port into a loop. The drive always uses an RR_TOV value of 300 seconds. The drive reports informational exception conditions, if reports of recovered errors are allowed, by returning CHECK CONDITION status on the next SCSI command (except INQUIRY and REQUEST SENSE commands) following detection of the condition. The Sense Key is set to RECOVERED ERROR with the Additional Sense Code set to 5Dh / 00h (TapeAlert event). The SCSI command with CHECK CONDITION completes without error before the report of any exception condition and does not need to be repeated. The drive reports informational exception conditions by returning CHECK CONDITION status on the next SCSI command (except INQUIRY and REQUEST SENSE commands) following detection of the condition. The firmware image must be downloaded in integral (whole) multiples of 8 KB. A Download Microcode and Save Mode WRITE BUFFER command must be issued for the image to become active.
