The braking modulation provided by the ABS system is independent of the force applied at the pedal. In an emergency, apply firm, continuous pressure at the brake pedal - there is no need to pump it repeatedly. 2. 20 CRUISE CONTROL - SPEED LIMITER: limiter function 2 5 1 The speed limiter function allows you to decide on a maximum driving speed. This may be useful, for example, in town driving or in areas with speed restriction (roadworks), etc. The system operates above a driving speed of approximately 20 mph (30 km/h). 3 4 6 Controls 1 Main On/Off switch 2 Limited speed storage switch and adjustment of limited speed (increasing). 4 Switching the function off (with stored limited speed) 5 Limited speed storage switch and adjustment of limited speed (decreasing). Indicator light This orange indicator light lights up on the instrument panel to indicate that the limiter function is in operation. Stored speed information appears on instrument panel display 6 permanently or for approximately 30 seconds, depending on vehicle type. 2. 21 CRUISE CONTROL - SPEED LIMITER: limiter function (continued) Driving When a limited speed is stored, press on the accelerator pedal until you reach the limited speed. From this point, no effort on the accelerator pedal will allow you to exceed the programmed speed except in an emergency (see information on exceeding the limited speed). 2 5 1 Switching on Press the side switch 1 The indicator light lights up in the instrument panel and the on-board computer enters speed limiter mode. Changing the limited speed The limited speed may be changed by acting (pressing frequently or continuously) on: - button 2 to increase speed, - button 5 to reduce speed. If the car has the temporary display function, the limited speed is displayed for approximately 30 seconds. Limiting the speed At a stable speed (approximately 20 mph or 30 km/h) and in the correct gear (for vehicles with manual gearboxes), press switch 2: the speed is stored. 2. 22 CRUISE CONTROL - SPEED LIMITER: limiter function (continued) Exceeding the limited speed In the event of an emergency It is possible to exceed the limited speed at any moment. To do this: depress the accelerator pedal firmly and fully (beyond the point of resistance). The speed flashes on the instrument panel (on-board computer) to inform you that the cruise control speed is being exceeded. It does not increase the vehicle's limitations and should not encourage you to drive more quickly. It can, thus, under no circumstances replace the vigilance or responsibility of the driver when manoeuvring the vehicle (the driver must always be aware of sudden incidents which may occur when driving). 1 Operating principle The system uses sensors in the wheels to constantly measure and compare the speed of the drive wheels and prevents them spinning. If a wheel is tending to skid, the system brakes automatically until the drive delivered becomes compatible with the level of grip. 2. 29 TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (continued) Operating faults When the system detects an operating fault, warning lights 1 and 3 light up. Consult your Renault Dealer. 3 1 2 Disabling the function In some situations (driving on very wet ground: snow, mud, . . . or driving with chained wheels), the system may reduce the engine power to limit skidding. It is possible to deactivate the function by pressing switch 2 if this is not desirable. Disabling the traction control function also deactivates the ESP function: refer to the information on the ESP in section 2.
