If you have shorter hair, place a thin plastic comb between your scalp and the plates in order to prevent contact with the scalp. Check with a small section of hair that the temperature setting is right for your hair. Turn on, set to the required temperature and allow the plates to heat; they take about 60-90 seconds to heat. If material should build up on the plates, clean with a mild, gentle soap or a special cleaning fluid and wipe with a soft cloth.
