Introduction
Thank you for buying a SmartSlice CompoNet Communications Unit. The CompoNet Communications Unit is an interface unit which complies with the CompoNet standard. Be sure you understand the functions and performance of the Units fully before you use them.
Intended Audience
This manual is for the personnel below. This personnel must understand electrical systems (must be an electrical engineer or the equivalent). [. . . ] Right-click the icon of CompoNet Communications Unit and select Maintenance Information. (From the Maintenance Mode Window, double-click the icon. ) The Monitor Window will show. The window will show the communications status of the SmartSlice I/O Units.

Allocating I/O with the CX-Integrator
You can use the CX-Integrator to set I/O allocations. (In the Maintenance Mode Window, right-click the icon and select Parameter - Edit. ) The Configuration Window will show.
3. Click the Software Setting Table Tab and set the areas, addresses, and number of nodes for word outputs and word inputs. The area is the memory area in the CPU Unit and the address is the address of the first word to allocate. If status words are necessary, set them too.

The "number of nodes" is the number of words in the Input and Output Areas that the SmartSlice I/O Terminal uses. To find the number of words in the Input and Output Areas, open the Configuration Window of the Communications Unit and click the I/O Map Tab. The tab page will show the number of words in the Input Area and the Output Area.

Overview of Smart Functions
This section gives an overview of the smart functions of the CompoNet SmartSlice system.
Function Registration Table Overview The Registration Table contains information on the SmartSlice I/O Units in the SmartSlice I/O Terminal. Method DIP switch
Backup Function You can read the parameter settings from all DIP switch SmartSlice I/O Units in the SmartSlice I/O Terminal and save them. Automatic You can automatically restore the parameter DIP switch Restore Function settings that you backed up in the CompoNet Communications Unit. Replacing Units Online Automatic Baud Rate Recognition You can replace a SmartSlice I/O Unit without turning OFF the power supply. The CompoNet Communications Unit automatically uses the same baud rate as the CompoNet Master Unit. -----
Software Setting You can set Dummy Units (SmartSlice I/O of I/O Allocations Units that are not installed at this time) in a Software Setting Table.
