[. . . ] From the Macintosh desktop, when you double click the program icon (left), the TextBridge Pro main window is displayed (Figure 5­1). The upper right corner provides the standard zoom box which allows you to toggle the window size. Below the TextBridge Professional Edition title bar is the main window which provides a main toolbar and a preferences panel. These tools let you set up, start, and control the document recognition process. Initially, only one row of preference pop-up menus is shown. To display additional preferences, hold down the mouse button and drag the preferences view bar below the preference pop-up menus. At different stages of the process, additional toolbars--the preview toolbar and interactive training toolbar--appear automatically beneath the preferences panel (Figure 5­2). 5­2 TextBridge Professional Edition User's Guide Preview toolbar Training toolbar Figure 5­2. Preview and training toolbars Below the toolbar area, the largest area of the main window is the view area. Here, depending on the processing stage (preview, training), different views of the page image appear. At the upper left of the main window, the status area displays messages that indicate the status of the job. Except for an occasional dialog box, all program activities take place in the main window. It is your control center for TextBridge Pro's powerful document recognition tools. SAMPLE DOCUMENTS For use with the tutorial sessions provided in this chapter, five sample documents are located in the Sample Documents folder in the TextBridge Pro folder. The sample documents are stored in TIFF format and are named: 3col markplan plexis resume zonepic The sample documents provide a cross-section of the document types that TextBridge Pro can process. They are designed to highlight the wide range of capabilities the program provides. Refer to Appendix B of this document for descriptions and pictures of the sample documents. In each of the five tutorial sessions provided in this chapter, you are asked to use a specific sample document. Tutorials 5­3 To identify an on-line sample document for TextBridge Pro to use, follow these steps: 1. On the TextBridge Pro main toolbar, push in the Input from File button: 2. Click the Go button. TextBridge Pro now displays the Image Queue dialog box (Figure 5­3). Double-click a file on the list, or highlight a file and click Add. Files you have added are listed here. After you select the files, click Proceed. Figure 5­3. From the Image Queue dialog box, access the Sample Documents folder: The five sample TIFF files should now be listed in the Image Queue dialog box. Click the Add button to add the selected file to the list on the lower left side of the Image Queue dialog box. Please now proceed to the tutorial sessions to work with TextBridge Pro and familiarize yourself with its capabilities. TUTORIAL SESSION 1: AUTOMATIC OPERATION TextBridge Pro provides a range of features designed to be very easy to use. For most documents you can use default settings, and simply press the Go button to start the document recognition process. For this example, use the on-line sample document named markplan. In the Image Queue dialog box (Figure 5­3), select the sample document markplan, then click Proceed. [. . . ] Later, you can queue up these images in the Image Queue dialog box and have TextBridge Pro run document recognition on them. Alternatively, you can use these page images in an image editing or document image management application, or for any other purpose. scanner brightness--In TextBridge Pro scanner preferences, a setting that informs the program about how light or dark the resulting image from a scanned page will be.
