CAUTION: Make sure the Versa power is off whenever you attach or remove the keyboard. Open the cover on the back of the Versa S and locate the external keyboard port. Adding Options 3-9 3. Align the keyboard cable connector with the port and plug it into the port. When you turn on your system, it automatically recognizes the external keyboard. Keyboard Connector Keyboard/ Mouse Port Attaching the external keyboard NOTE: You cannot use the Fn-Esc or Fn-F9 key combination from the external keyboard. Mouse You can connect an external mouse to your Versa S. The software needed to recognize the external mouse in Windows and DOS programs is already installed in your system. Do not leave it in Suspend or Standby mode. 3-10 Adding Options NOTE: Make sure the Versa power is off whenever you attach or remove the mouse. Open the port cover on the back of the Versa S and locate the external keyboard connector. 3. Align the mouse cable connector with the port and plug in the connector. NOTE: You cannot use SurePoint or its selection buttons when you attach an external mouse. Adding Options 3-11 6. The system automatically recognizes the external mouse. Monitor You can attach an external VGA or multi-frequency monitor to your Versa S. Before attaching the external monitor, change the VGA setting through the SCU or through the Fn-F2 function key. To use an external monitor, the VGA option should be either CRT or Both. If your setting is LCD, the Versa S does not recognize or activate the external monitor. See Chapter 4 for details about using this SCU setup program. NOTE: You can switch display modes using Fn-F2 to toggle between LCD, CRT, and Both. To attach an external monitor you need a signal cable (usually provided with the monitor). One end of the cable must have a 15-pin male connector for the system. Follow these steps to connect an external monitor to your Versa S. 1. Do not leave the notebook in Suspend mode. NOTE: The Versa S does not recognize the newly connected monitor if you leave the system in Suspend mode. 3-12 Adding Options 2.
