Pull the card firmly out of the slot. Using Your NEC Versa 6000 4-15 Connecting the Built-In Modem In addition to sending and receiving faxes, the built-in modem (except in Asia) provides one standard phone connector, and one cellular phone connector for transforming your notebook into a speakerphone. NEC provides two analog phone cables (one is a spare) for your convenience. To use the computer's cellular phone connector, you need to purchase a cellular phone cable from a computer store. The NEC Versa 6000 is not a cellular phone. If you want to take advanatge of your system's cellular connector, you will need to use your own cellular phone. NOTE Use the following steps to connect the standard phone cable to your analog phone. The Australian version of the NEC Versa 6000 does not have cellular phone support. NOTE 1. Locate the analog phone cable in the accessories bag in the NEC Versa 6000 computer shipping carton. One end of the cable is a standard telephone cable connector, and the other end is a flat, two-pin connector. 2. Connect the telephone connector end into a standard wall outlet. 4-16 Using Your NEC Versa 6000 3. Connect the flat-connector end into the computer's telephone line modem port. Connecting the telephone cable Read the following sections for information on using the FaxWorks software loaded on your system to download a file, send and receive faxes, and make a phone call. System not equipped with a built-in modem in Asia and Europe. NOTE Downloading a File To receive data from an outside source, such as the NEC Bulletin Board System (BBS), complete these steps. 1. Sending a Facsimile Send facsimiles via your NEC Versa 6000 modem with the FaxWorks software loaded on your system using the following steps. 1. First, change your current printer driver to the FX-WORKS driver on COM-2 as follows: s Open the document you want to fax in a . doc application, like MS- Word. s Execute the print command. When in the Print menu, go into Printer Setup, (for example in MS-Word select "Printer. ") s Change the current printer selected to FX-WORKS on COM-2. Create the facsimile cover sheet as follows. s Type in the company or person's name, telephone number and ad- dress. s Choose the cover sheet type. Select "Basic. " s Select "Note. " Type in a brief cover sheet message. s Under Schedule, select "ASAP", or type in the time you would like to send the facsimile. The default setting is the current time. s Select the type of transmission, "High" or "Standard. " High is the de- fault setting and provides a clearer transmission. The "Standard" setting transmits at a faster rate, but may lack clarity. 4. Select "Send. " FaxWorks converts the cover sheet, dials the number en- tered earlier and sends the facsimile. 4-18 Using Your NEC Versa 6000 Receiving a Facsimile To receive faxes, keep the Call Center menu open and minimized. When you are receiving a facsimile, you will see the following message at the bottom of your screen: Waiting for Call. If a fax machine is calling, the system automatically receives the fax.
