Make sure you close the cover. Press the Power button to resume the system from Sus- pend mode. 20X CD-ROM READER The NEC Versa 5000 comes with a 20X CD-ROM reader that features the latest in CD-ROM technology. (The next letter available depends on the size of your hard disk drive. ) The CD-ROM reader is a Class 1 Laser product. NOTE Use the CD-ROM reader to load and start programs from a compact disc (CD). You can also use the CD-ROM reader to play your audio CDs (see "Playing Audio CDs" in this chapter). The 20X CD-ROM reader is compatible with Kodak Multi-session Photo CDsTM and industry data and audio CDs. The CD-ROM reader operates at different speeds depending on whether the CD you are using contains data or music. This allows you to get your data faster and to see smoother animation and video. 4-12 Using Your NEC Versa CD-ROM reader features CD-ROM reader features include the following: T T Release Button -- ejects the CD tray. Emergency Eject Hole -- allows you to manually remove a CD from the reader if the eject function is disabled by software or a power failure occurs. To remove a CD, insert the end of a paper clip into the eject hole, and push in until you hear a click. Now you can manually open the drawer and remove the CD. CD Loading To insert a CD into the CD-ROM reader, follow these steps. The CD-ROM reader ships with a shipping restraint installed. Do not insert a CD with the restraint installed. NOTE Using Your NEC Versa 4-13 1. Press the Release button and pull the CD tray out of the reader bay. Pressing the Release button 2. Put your CD, printed side up, into the circular impres- sion in the tray. 3. Push the CD tray in until it clicks shut. Some CDs vibrate when playing. This does not affect the way that the CD-ROM reader functions. NOTE Using Bootable CDs To use a bootable CD in your system, you may need to go into Setup and change the boot sequence. (See Chapter 3, "Using Setup and Power Management, " for details about entering Setup and changing system settings. ) 4-14 Using Your NEC Versa Using Audio CDs Follow these instructions to play audio CDs in Windows 95. For more details, see your Microsoft Windows 95 User's Guide. 1. If configured in the Windows 95 Device Manager, the software automatically detects the audio CD and begins playing. If automatic play is not set up on your system, use the CD player located under Accessories in the MultiMedia directory. Playing Entertainment CDs Use the following steps to run a game or educational CD. 1. For example, you must enter the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM reader. 3.
