Building in and connection If the appliance is supplied without a plug, or if the plug is removed, it must be connected to the mains electricity supply by a suitably qualified and competent electrician in strict accordance with local and national safety regulations. The smell and any vapours will dissipate after a short time and do not indicate a faulty connection or appliance. 10 Use Switching on and off To switch the grill on or off the control can be turned in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. Without the lava rocks the rising steam keeps the food being grilled moist. Prepare the grill as follows, before switching it on: ^ Make sure the drain tap is closed. ^ Take off the rack, lift up the heating element, and if not being used, take the lava rock container out. ^ Lower the heating element again, and put the rack on it. 12 Use Grilling When grilling, watch the level of water in the trough. Do not use pots and pans or similar on the open grill and never cover the rack (e. g. ^ Then switch down to "10" or "9" (with food that tends to burn). ^ Turn the food once or more during grilling. 13 Use Tips on grilling ­ To avoid spitting during grilling, dab moist food dry with paper kitchen towel. ­ Salt food after grilling, and not before as it could dry out too much. The lower power settings are suitable for keeping food warm. 14 Use Safety cut-out A safety cut-out automatically switches the appliance off if the water level drops too low. As soon as the appliance has cooled down, the grill element switches back on again and you can continue grilling. After grilling Proceed as follows: ^ Switch the grill off. ^ Clean the grill after each use while it is still warm to the touch (see "Cleaning and care"). If the rocks look dark they are saturated with oil and must be cleaned or replaced. 15 Cleaning and care General notes Clean the appliance regularly, preferably after each use.
