Cleaning glass procedure for: ScanMaker 4 ScanMaker 8700 ScanMaker 8700 Pro ScanMaker i900 Tools Needed: Phillips Screw Driver Recommended Materials: Glass Cleaning Cloth Clear streak-free glass cleaner Or 50/50 solution mix distilled water and pure alcohol Canned Air Selecting A Work Area It is important that you begin by planning where you will lay your disassembled parts. Locate an area with a workbench, table or desk with plenty of space. [. . . ] See illustration below: Notice how nothing attaches the lid down to the scanner. The lid hinges should release very easily from the female receptacles. Note: Keep in mind that the lid hinges are especially designed to release only when the lid is at a 90° angle. For the next step you will need a "Phillip" head screw driver or a pen. Removing the scanner's glass bed itself requires some ability to multi-task and you will be using both hands. See illustration below which will indicate where you will need to use the "Phillip" screwdriver or pen to release the scanner's glass bed. Female Hinge Receptacle Glass Bed Lock Female Hinge Receptacle You will be using the "Phillip" head screw driver or pen to push slightly downward on the scanner's glass bed lock to release the scanner's glass bed. See Illustration on following page for demonstration. Notice how as you push slightly downward with the screw driver, you use you free hand to pry loose the scanner's glass bed assembly. Once you have moved the glass bed about a half-inch towards the rear of the scanner, you can then release the lock mechanism and use both hands to remove the scanner's glass bed. Use screwdriver to push and your free hand to wedge the scanner's glass bed loose at the same time. See illustration below Push Down Lightly Warning: Push lightly on the scanner's glass bed lock. Once glass bed is released grab it with both hands and pull away from the scanner. See Illustration 1a below 1a Pull upwards to remove glass bed. Glass Bed Front Rev. 1. 2 Last Revised on 4/20/06 5 of 10 Chassis VI Glass Cleaning Instructions Place the scanners glass bed on a flat surface with a cloth or towel underneath to prevent scratching on the glass while clean the glass. Cleaning Tip: The best way to clean the scanner glass bed is with a clear glass cleaner solution. Make sure you do not use the blue, red, yellow or any other color dye solutions. You can also use a 50/50 solution mix distilled water and pure alcohol. Also use a soft cloth and avoid all abrasive material such as sponges and rough paper towels. [. . . ] Note: You will here a soft clicking sound once the scanner's glass bed is locked in place.
