Regardless of seating position, children under 13 must be seated and properly secured in an appropriate infant or child restraint recommended for the size and weight of the child. Mercedes-Benz Occupant Classification System (OCS) Your vehicle is equipped with advanced air bag technology, this system is designed to deactivate front passenger air bag when OCS senses a typical 12-month old child or less in addition to standard appropriate child restraint placed in front passenger seat. Warning: A child in a rear-facing child restraint on front passenger seat will be seriously injured or even killed if the front passenger air bag inflates in a collision which could occur under some circumstances, even with advanced air bag technology, we therefore strongly recommend that you always place a child in a rear-facing child restraint in the back seat. Warning: Indicator lamp must display when a rear facing child restraint is installed in the vehicle with the child in it for it to be safe for the child to be seated in the restraint. PASS AIRBAG OFF If it is not illuminated with the child seat installed with the child in it, do not transport the child in the front passenger seat. Warning: The front passenger front air bag may also be deactivated if the system senses a front passenger seat occupant as being the weight of a small individual in which case the light will illuminate. See Operator's Manual for additional warnings and information on the operation of the OCS, air bags, seat belts, child seats and child seat LATCH system.
