[. . . ] · "W, " "WD, " "WC, " and "LW" models have a "wide" (16-bit) SCSI data bus rather than the standard (non-wide) 8-bit SCSI data bus; however, you can use these wide drives on a standard (non-wide) 8-bit data bus.

[1] For environments where all elements of the bus (cables, device interfaces, environmental noise and other parameters) are controlled to be better than minimally required, it may be possible to extend the path length and device count. [2] Extending the device count beyond eight requires specification control beyond the minimum specified in the ANSI T10/1142D document. It is recommended that the devices be uniformly spaced between terminators with the end devices located as close as possible to the terminators. [3] Values specified by data rate shall apply even if a slower data rate is negotiated.

[1] For environments where all elements of the bus (cables, device interfaces, environmental noise and other parameters) are controlled to be better than minimally required, it may be possible to extend the path length and device count. [2] SCSI devices shall be within a stub length of the termination (. 1 meter). [3] Values specified by data rate shall apply even if a slower data rate is negotiated. [4] Low voltage differential (LVD) devices only ("LW" models).
Twisted pair cable should be used with differential transceivers.

[1] Do not mix "W, " "WD, " and "LW" model drives on the daisy chain. However, an "LW" drive may operate on a "W" bus if the drive operates only in the single-ended I/O transmission mode. Install the "LVD" jumper shown in Figure 16 to force single-ended I/O operation. The external terminator [3] will be required on the "LW" drive if it is the last drive or only drive on the I/O daisy chain. [2] "X" means up to 15 or the maximum allowable number of devices on the SCSI bus. Multiple-drive connection to host adapter
