Ambient temperature is defined as the temperature of the environment immediately surrounding the drive. Actual drive case temperature should not exceed 69°C (156°F) within the operating ambient conditions. Above 1, 000 feet (305 meters), the maximum temperature is derated linearly to 112°F (44°C) at 10, 000 feet (3, 048 meters).

Acoustics
Drive acoustics are measured as overall A-weighted acoustic sound power levels (no pure tones). Sound power measurements are taken under essentially free-field conditions over a reflecting plane. The number of seeks per second is defined by the following equation:

Reliability
Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
The product shall achieve an Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) of 0. 34% (MTBF of 0. 7 million hours) when operated in an environment of ambient air temperatures of 25°C. Operation at temperatures outside the specifications in Section 2. 9 may increase the product AFR (decrease MTBF). AFR and MTBF are population statistics that are not relevant to individual units. AFR and MTBF specifications are based on the following assumptions for desktop personal computer environments: · 2400 power-on-hours per year. · Temperatures outside the specifications in Section 2. 9 may reduce the product reliability. Operation at excessive I/O duty cycle may degrade product reliability. The desktop personal computer environment of power-on-hours, temperature, and I/O duty cycle affect the product AFR and MTBF.
