[. . . ] Reference Waypoints / Database Accessing Waypoints in the Database -- All stored waypoints, whether user-input or preloaded, can be found in the Waypoint Database. You will need to access waypoints in the database whenever you are editing waypoints, activating a GOTO route or creating a multileg route. From Any Screen Highlight Database Use up/down arrows to select category Use left/right arrows to select "Find By" Selecting Waypoints from the Nearest List. If Near Position, N ear C ity or Near C ursor is selected as the "Find By" option for the database or if User was selected as the category, you will be presented with a list of waypoints that you can choose from. The information at the bottom of the screen indicates the bearing and distance to the highlighted waypoint from your present position. Holding it at an angle, lef t or r ight, will accur atel y displa y the heading of t he r eceiv er , but it w on 't be a true r epr esent ation of y our dir ection of tr avel. (As y ou will see ne xt, COG provides a true indication of y our dir ection of tr avel, r eg ardless of whic h w ay the SporT rak Color is pointing. ) Heading is displa yed all t he time. Course Ovr Ground (C e OG) COG is t he dir ection y ou ar e tr avelling. W ith the SporT rak Color held dir ectl y in fr ont of you, y ou w ould t hink t hat heading and C OG would be t he same, but t hat is no t alw ays the case. Boat er s ar e q uite f amiliar wit h heading and C OG being dif fer ent due t o tides and curr ent. An e xam ple of t hat w ould be a boat tr avelling along wit h a heading of 0 °. At the same time, t her e ar e curr ents in t he w ater pushing t he boat t o one side. This w ould cause t he boat t o dr ift of f cour se in t he dir ection of t he curr ent. Ho w muc h it mo ves depends on t he speed of t he boat and t he f orce of t he curr ent. In t he abo ve e xam ple t he SporT rak Color w ould com pute t hat y ou need t o turn 65 ° to g e t to your f ishing spo t. (Remember , since C OG is your true heading, t he angle y ou need t o turn is t he dif fer ence be tween C OG and bear ing, no t heading and bear ing. ) As soon as y ou mak e t his turn, t he f orce of t he curr ent on y our boat w ould c hang e. This would also c hang e ho w muc h dif fer ence t her e is be tween y our heading and C OG. The SporTrak Color continuall y updat es t his inf ormation giving y ou t he e xact turn inf ormation y ou will need t o arr ive at y our des tination.
