Velocity Made Good (VMG)
Velocity Made Good is the speed you are making towards a waypoint. For example, ifyou are travellingat tenknots directlytowards a waypoint and there isn't any wind or current, then your VMG is ten knots. Moving directlyaway trom the waypoint underthe same conditions results in a VMG of -10 knots. To showtheVelocity Made Good, press the 2nd key, then the 1 key.

The arrows at thetopof thescreen also showthe cross trackerror. For example, if thearrow points to the right, you muststeer to the right to getback on course. These are activated automatically when a waypoint or route is recalled.

CROSS TRACK ERRORPER ARROW Each arrow standsfor . 10 nautical mile when the [MS-b is turned on for the very first time. To store this position underthe displayed waypoint number, simplypressthe ENT key. If you wish to store this waypointunder anothernumber, pressthe OLR key, then enterthe desired waypoirit numberusingthe numberkeypad. Your waypoint numberappears in the lower left cornerof thescreen as you enter it. Make certain to add a "0" to the beginning of numbers less than ten. For example, if you wish to store your current positionas waypoint number one, press the "0" key, then the "1" key. To exit from this screen without saving a waypoint, press the CLR key twice. The waypoint numberincrements each time you save a waypoint, so you don't haveto keep trackof the waypoint numbers. Once you've storedthe waypoint, the [MS-lU returns youto theLoran display.
TIP Save your home port as waypoint number 01. It's easyto remember home is numberone eachtime youwant to return to it.

To save a waypoint otherthan your present positionin latitude/longitude, first press the 1, 9, ENTkeys. (See the screen at the top of the next page. )

ChangingtheASF using TD offsets requires a differentapproach than the lat/long method. First pressthecommand number according to thedesired TD, then entertheoffset. Each time an ASF is entered, the LMS-10 automaticallyuses it for that station. A screen similarto the one below appears.
