Follow course line on the Map Page or the compass bearing arrow on the Navigation Page. Routes A route is a series of waypoints, linked together in an ordered sequence to mark a course of travel. The beads represent waypoints and the string represents the course of travel connecting waypoint to waypoint. The legs of all GPS routes are based on straight lines between waypoints. A route provides the automatic capability to navigate through several waypoints without having to reprogram the unit after arriving at each 61 waypoint. Once programmed into the GPS unit, a route provides the option of navigating forward through the route waypoints or in reverse order (you can even begin navigating in the middle of a route!) Create and Save a Route You have the option of creating and editing a route in the unit or you can make a route on your computer with our MapCreate software. PC-created Routes MapCreate is the easiest method for preparing a route, simply because your PC's larger screen, keyboard and mouse are easier to manipulate than the unit. To load a MapCreate route into the unit, follow instructions in MapCreate's manual for creating a route and saving it as part of a GPS Data File (file format *. usr). To load the GPS Data File into the unit's memory, see the entry on Transfer Custom Maps & GPS Data Files in Sec. 6, Basic GPS Operations. ) Routes Created in the Unit You can create a route by selecting existing waypoints from the waypoint list or you can set a series of route waypoints on the map with cursor arrows and the Enter key. In this example, we'll create a route from the map. Route Planning command on Main Menu (left). From the NAVIGATION PAGE, press MENU|ENT or from the MAP PAGE, press MENU|MENU| to ROUTE PLANNING|ENT|ENT. Edit Route Waypoints menu (right) with Add From Map command selected. 3. Use the Zoom keys and arrow keys to move the map and cursor until the cursor is centered on the spot where you want your route to begin. (If you are starting at your current position or the current cursor position, you are already at the starting spot. ) 4. In this example, we started our route at the intersection of 11th Street and 145th E. (Our route creation example is illustrated in the following figures. ) 1. With point (2) set, move cursor east to mark interstate on-ramp with waypoint (3). In figures 2 and 3, notice the rubber band line extending from the previously set waypoint to the cursor. This line will become the course for the route. 63 4. 5. 6.
