[. . . ] M410 M412 Edition: May 2000 The following paragraph does not apply to any country where such provisions are inconsistent with local law: LEXMARK INTERNATIONAL, INC. , PROVIDES THIS PUBLICATION "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Some states do not allow disclaimer of express or implied warranties in certain transactions; therefore, this statement may not apply to you. This publication could include technical inaccuracies or typographical errors. Changes are periodically made to the information herein; these changes will be incorporated in later editions. [. . . ] Complete the following instructions to load print material in the multipurpose feeder: Note: When printing from the multipurpose feeder, be sure to set the PAPER SIZE and PAPER TYPE for the MP Feeder menu item. Also select the paper size and type from your software application. 1 Open the multipurpose feeder door. See "Opening the Multipurpose Feeder" on page 141 for more information. Slide the paper width guide to the far right side of the multipurpose feeder. 2 Paper Width Guide 130 Chapter 4: Using Print Materials 3 Flex the sheets back and forth to loosen them, then fan them. Straighten the edges on a level surface. Note: Do not load different sizes or types of print material in the multipurpose feeder at the same time. Doing so may cause a paper jam. 4 5 Locate the stack height limiter on the left side of the printer. Place the print material against the left side of the multipurpose feeder with the recommended print side face up and the top edge going in first toward the printer. Stack Height Limiter Note: Do not exceed the maximum stack height limiter located on the left side of the multipurpose feeder. Loading Print Material 131 6 Slide the print material into the multipurpose feeder as far as it will go. Forcing print material could cause a paper jam. 7 Paper Width Guide Slide the paper width guide to the left until it lightly touches the edge of the print material. Make sure the print material fits loosely in the multipurpose feeder and is not bent or wrinkled. Do not overload the multipurpose feeder. 8 Send your job to print. For information on duplexing, see "Manual Duplex Printing" on page 136. 132 Chapter 4: Using Print Materials Using the Paper Exits (Output Bins) Using the Standard Output Bin You printer has two standard paper exits. The following sections explain how to use the printer output bins. The standard output bin holds 250 sheets of print material and is located on top of the printer. The printer automatically sends print jobs to the standard output bin. The standard output bin collates print jobs face down. Standard Output Bin Using the Paper Exits (Output Bins) 133 Using the Rear Output Bin You may want to use the rear output bin when you print on different sizes and types of print material, such as paper, card stock, transparencies, postcards, note cards, and envelopes. For information on other types of print material, refer to the Card Stock & Label Guide. Note: Print material that is 165. 1 mm (6. 5 in. ) or less in length must exit to the rear output bin. The printer automatically sends print jobs to the rear output bin when you open it. The rear output bin reverse collates print jobs face up. 1 Handhold Locate the rear output bin door as shown. Rear Output Bin Door 2 3 Pull the handhold to open the rear output bin. Close the rear output bin door when you finish using it. 134 Chapter 4: Using Print Materials Printing on Letterhead Check with the manufacturer or vendor to determine whether the preprinted letterhead you have chosen is acceptable for laser printers. Use the following table for help when loading letterhead in the paper sources. Orienting Letterhead Top of page Tray Tray 1 (250-sheet input tray) Tray 2 (optional 500-sheet drawer) Multipurpose feeder (including feeding individual sheets) Face up Print side Face down Portrait Front of tray (nearest tray handle) Landscape Left side of tray Rear of tray (enters the printer first) Left side of tray Tray Linking If you are using the same size and type of print material in all paper sources (input trays and the multipurpose feeder) and the PAPER MENU settings for the sources are the same, the automatic tray linking feature is enabled. For example, if you have the same size and type print material loaded in the standard 250-sheet tray and the optional 500-sheet drawer, the printer will select print material from one tray when the other becomes empty. If you load the same size print material in each tray, make sure the print material is all the same type. If you use different print material in the trays, each source with a different print material must have the PAPER TYPE set to a unique value to disable the automatic tray linking feature. [. . . ] See single-sided printing. Glossary 281 single-sided printing. Printing on only one side of a sheet of print material (simplex printing). A printer function that automatically switches the printer language to match that of the current print job. Any program loaded on your computer used to perform a specific task, such as word processing or data compiling. [. . . ]
