CaUTIoN:Donotattempttoopenthedrive'sdisctrayorremovetheDVDorCDwhiletheunitisinuseandbeingaccessedbythecomputer. Youmayinjureyourself, anddamagethedriveand/oryourcomputersystem. Donot transportthedrivewiththetrayopenorwithaDVDorCDdiscinsideit. Doingsomaydamagethedriveand/or datastoredonthedisc, andwillvoidyourwarranty.
Mac Users DragtheDVD/CDicononthedesktoptotheTrash. TheSlimDVD±RWdrive'straywillthenopen. Emergency Ejection of Discs
IntheeventthataCDorDVDcannotbeejectedwiththeOpen/Closebuttonandthesoftwareisnot controllingthedrive, usetheemergencyejectoperationtoopenthedisctray. First, switchoffyour computerandunplugtheinterfacecable. OnthefrontofthedriveistheEmergencyEjectHole(seefigureinsection3. 2. Inserting discs). Inserta smallmetalpoker, suchasanunbentpaperclip, intotheEmergencyEjectHoleuntilthepokerpresses againstthemanualejectmechanism. Youwillfeelthemechanismejectthedisctray. Onlyusethis methodwhentheOpen/Closebuttonisnotworking. CaUTIoN:MakesuretheSlimDVD±RWdriveisoffandthepowerunpluggedbeforeattemptingtheemergencyejectionprocedure.

ISO9660, astandardpublishedbytheInternationalOrganizationforStandardization, definesafilesystemforCDand DVD-ROMmedia. ItsupportsdifferentcomputeroperatingsystemssuchasMicrosoftWindows, MacOS, andsystemsthat followtheUnixspecification, toensuredataexchange. MacuserscanchoosetocreateMac-only, ISO9660orHybridCD/DVD-ROMs(Mac&PC).

Disc at Once (DAO) ADVDwritingprocessinwhichtheentireDVDisrecordedinonesession, anddatacannotbe addedaftertherecordingisfinished. DiffersfromtheCD-RDAOmethodbecausethelead-in, dataareaandlead-outareas areallwrittensequentially. Incremental Recording (IR)ADVDwritingprocessthatissimilartotheSessionatOnce(SAO)CD-Rwritingmethod;files maybeaddeddirectlytotheDVD-Rdisconerecordingatatime, insteadofrecordingthefilestoaharddrivebeforewritingthedisc. Theminimumrecordedsize, though, mustbeatleast32KB(evenifthefiletoberecordedissmallerthanthat), andcapacitiesandwritespeedsaredecreasedduetotheoverheadofcombinedlead-in/outareasanddata. Also, thedisc mustbefinalizedbeforeitmaybeplayedbackbyadriveotherthanthedriverecordingthedisc. Multi-Border Recording (MBR)ADVDwritingprocessthatisverysimilartoIR, MBRallowsyoutomakeanIRdiscand thenplaythediscbackonadevicethatrecognizesthistypeofrecordingmethod. MBRcreatesaveryshortboundaryzone aroundarecordingsessionsoacompatibleplayerorDVD-ROMdrivedoesnotattempttoplaybeyondtheborderofthe recordedarea, insteadallowingtheunfinalizeddisctobereadbyaplayerthatsupportsthisrecordingmethod. Restricted Overwriting (RO)ADVDwritingprocessthatonlyappliestoSlimDVD±RWdiscs. Withthismethod, ifadisc hasalreadybeenwrittento, newdatasegmentscanberandomlyinsertedanywherewithintherecordedboundary. New data, however, canonlybeaddedtoanareaofthediscthathasalreadybeenrecordedoverandfromthepointwherethe lastsessionwasstopped.
