Please read this instruction manual carefully before using the instrument. This manual will provide you with all the necessary information for the correct use of the instrument, as well as a precise idea of its versatility in a wide range of applications. These instruments are in compliance with CSA, (EN 50081-1 and EN 50082-1) UL and directives. [. . . ] TWO POINT CALIBRATION · Proceed as described in "One point calibration" but do not quit calibration by pressing the pH/mV key at the end. · After the first calibration point is confirmed, immerse the pH electrode and the temperature probe into the second buffer solution (pH 4. 01 or pH 10. 01) and shake briefly. HI 7004 23 Note: the electrode should be submerged approximately 4 cm (1½") into the solution. The temperature probe should be located as close as possible to the pH electrode. · Rinse the electrode and the temperature probe before immersing them into pH 4. 01/ pH10. 01 calibration buffer, shake briefly and wait for thermal equilibrium. · The meter automatically recognizes the buffer value and prompts for the second at "t2" (pH 4. 01, acid) or "t3" (pH 10. 01, alkaline). · Press the CON key to confirm the pH value and the display will indicate the temperature compensated buffer value e. g. if the temperature is at 25°C, the display will show "pH 4. 01" or "10. 01", depending on the solution used. °C pH 4 cm (1½") CON If the temperature is at 20°C, the display will show respectively "pH 4. 00" or "pH 10. 06" (see page 26). The pH symbol will stop flashing and the unit is now calibrated and ready for measurements. CON °C pH 24 · If the reading is drifting, turn the meter off and repeat the calibration procedure waiting longer time for the reading to stabilize. However, usually 1 or 2 minutes are enough to prevent drifting of the reading. Note: If you need to unplug the instrument, press the OFF key thus switching the instrument off before disconnecting the power cord. In the case of a power failure while the instrument is operational, re-calibration might be required. 25 pH VALUES AT VARIOUS TEMPERATURE Temperature has an effect on pH. The calibration buffer solutions are effected by temperature changes to a lesser degree than normal solutions. During calibration the meter will automatically calibrate to the pH value corresponding to the measured or set temperature. If the buffer temperature is at 50°C, the display will show pH 4. 06/6. 98/9. 82. 26 TEMPERATURE AND mV CALIBRATION All Hanna bench-top pH meters have been factory calibrated for the temperature and mV and is ready for measurements. The temperature probes and ORP electrodes are interchangeable and no temperature or mV calibration is needed when the temperature probe or the ORP electrode is replaced. If, for any reason, the temperature or the mV measurements are out of accuracy, the temperature or the mV re-calibration should be carried out. In any case, we recommend that you have your bench-top meters re-calibrated in temperature and mV once a year. In HI 931402 it is possible to calibrate the meter for temperature and mV (see page 29), however it is recommendable that these calibrations are performed by technical personnel only. For an accurate recalibration, contact your nearest Hanna Service Center. 27 INTERFACE WITH PC (HI931402 ONLY) Data transmission from the instrument to the PC is now much easier with the new HI 92000 Windows® compatible application software offered by Hanna Instruments.
