Microphone Socket This socket is for connecting an external microphone for tape recordings (commercially available). Volume Use the VOLUME control to adjust the volume to the desired level. 6 3. Radio Operation Set the function switch to RADIO. Manual Tuning Select the wave band with the BAND button. Pressing the TUNING DOWN button decreases the frequency, TUNING UP increases the frequency. Press the appropriate button in single steps until the desired frequency appears on the display. the station is now in the memory and is shown on the display with its wave band, frequency and station number. Other stations can be assigned to other channel positions in the same way. If a channel position is selected which has already been assigned to a station, the previous frequency is deleted and replaced by the new one. Calling Up a Stored Station Select the wave band with the BAND button. The display shows the wave band, the reception frequency and the number of the selected memory position and the programmed station is heard. 8 4. Compact Disc Normal Playback With the built-in CD player you can play back both 12 cm compact discs and 8 cm CDs. Note Due to the very low noise level of CDs, you should take the following into consideration when adjusting the volume. If you adjust the volume as you would for conventional audio sources, you may experience sudden high increases in volume. Especially when listening with headphones, you should avoid high volume levels as these can cause damage to your hearing. The CD player also stops when ­ the end of the CD is reached, ­ the batteries are weak or the electricity supply is interrupted, ­ the function switch is moved to another position. Note Only CDs with the following symbol can be played back on your CD player: Set the function switch to CD. Press the OPEN/CLOSE contact surface on the lid of the CD compartment in order to open it. The display then shows the number of tracks on the CD and the CD's entire playing time and the CD player stops. As soon as playback begins, the display shows track number 1, when the second track is reached, the display shows 2, etc. For short interruptions press the The display flashes (pause display). PLAY/PAUSE button To remove the CD, press the OPEN/CLOSE contact surface to open the CD compartment. To switch the unit off completely, set the function switch to CASS . Fast Track Search If you keep the or pressed while playing back a CD, you activate the fast forward or fast reverse search. Release the button when you have located the desired position on the CD. Playback then resumes at normal speed. Adjust the volume and sound to the desired levels. Note Briefly pressing the button activates the skip function. 9 4. Compact Disc Skip Function By briefly pressing the / button during playback, you can skip to the beginning of the current track or any other track number. Playing the Beginning of Each Track (Intro Scan Play) You can play the first ten seconds of each track on the CD. By pressing the or buttons, you can introscan the previous track or the next track. [. . . ] Using any equipment or devices other than those specified in these instructions, or tampering with the unit in any way, can result in dangerous exposure to radiation. Although the tracks on the surface of the CD are protected by a special coating, CDs should always be handled with care. If you only touch the edge of your CDs and always return them to their covers after use, there is normally no need to clean them. Wet a cotton swab (1) with cleaning alcohol and use it to clean the elements that come into contact with the tape, such as the heads, capstands and the lay-on rollers. [. . . ]
