You can usually tell the number of cells and capacity of a pack by its designation: the number before the slash (/) or (-) indicates the number of cells, and allows you to calculate the pack's voltage (single cell = 1. Charging batteries During the charging process a particular quantity of energy is fed into the battery, which can be calculated by multiplying charge current by charge time. The maximum permissible charge current varies according to the type of cells in the pack; the figure can be found in the data sheets supplied by the battery manufacturer. The standard (slow) charge current should only be exceeded with batteries which are marked expressly as rapid-charge types. You must calculate the charge time required and terminate the charge process manually when that period has elapsed. Polarity of charge cables The diagrams below show the polarity of the two charge leads attached to the TWIN CHARGER. Please ensure that the transmitter charge socket and the other batteries you intend to charge are polarised correctly. Caution: the transmitter charge lead is designed to suit Graupner/JR radio control systems. The polarity may well be different with other makes of radio control system. The red and green LED 1 should now flash; this indicates that the charger is ready for use. It is essential to check that the polarity of the battery connector and the charge lead connector is correct (see Figs. Connect the discharged NiCd or NiMH battery pack to the appropriate charge lead attached to the charger.
