Drivingonsteep hills ormountains is different from driving in flat or rolling if you'replanning to visit terrain. If youdriveregularlyinsteepcountry, or there, herearesometipsthatcanmakeyourtripssaferandmoreenjoyable.

Themostimportant thing to know is this:let it yourenginedosome of theslowingdown. Don'tmakeyourbrakesdo all. Shift to alowergearwhenyougodownasteeporlonghill. That way, youwill slowdown withoutexcessiveuse ofyourbrakes.

Torque Lock (Automatic Transmission) Ifyouareparkingonahillandyoudon'tshiftyourtransmissioninto P (Park)properly, theweight of thevehicle may puttoomuchforceonthe parkingpawl in thetransmission. This iscalled"torquelock. " To preventtorquelock, always besure to shift into P (Park)beforeyouleave the driver'sseat. Whenyou are ready to drive, movetheshiftleverout youreleasetheparkingbrake.
