TUTORIAL If you've never played Civilization before, you can get acquainted with the basic game elements by selecting the Tutorial from the main menu. [4] ENGLISH GETTING STARTED You are moments away from establishing your very own civilization!To customize your world size, level of competition, tribe, gender, ruler's name and city style, select Start Game. Once you have found a suitable site for your capital city, press Key 5 to found it. You do have advisors to help, though (See Advisors on page 9). Using the N-GageTM Game Deck Controls , , , , Move cursor over map , , and Select menu options/ Open Unit Orders screen (from Map view) Return to previous screen Open and close the Map zoom screen Open Viewing mode menu Open and close the Minimap Open and close menus Acknowledge end of turn [5] ENGLISH Viewing Modes To open the Viewing mode screen, press Key 0. Use to switch among the 4 icons: Tile, City, Passive and Active units. City mode Map square (Tile) mode All units mode Active units mode All units -- Highlight the All units icon, then use to cycle through them. Note that fortified units or those sleeping inside cities will not be selected in this mode and must be selected from the City screen. Paradrop -- This mode becomes visible when paratroopers are available. Select a Paratrooper unit, then open the Unit menu, and select Paradrop. Now you can land your paratroopers in any map square except city or water squares, and those occupied by the enemy. Once your paratrooper lands, switch to the Active units mode and select the Paratrooper unit. Tile cursor -- Use to move the Tile cursor anywhere on explored territory (using Key 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, 7, 8, 9 will perform the same movements). When the Tile cursor is over a city, pressing Key 5 will bring up the City screen. When over an opponent's city it shows the name, race and trade demands. Pressing Key 5 twice reveals terrain information when a unit or city occupies the Tile. City -- Highlight the City icon, then use or to cycle between your cities. Active units -- Highlight the Active units icon, then use to cycle through active units. [6] ENGLISH READING THE IN-GAME DISPLAYS As founder of your civilization, you need to know as much as you can about your land, government, commercial and other activities in order to make informed decisions affecting your future. Civilization's in-game displays give you the data you need to assess your civilization's status. There's just a bit of terminology and iconography to understand before you get going. Defense Minister -- See the number of each type of unit you have as well as those under construction. Foreign Minister -- View a list of the other civilizations you've encountered and initiate diplomatic relations with them. Attitude Advisor -- View a list of each city's population and its happiness. [. . . ] City Improvements -- Map Menu > Advisors > City Status > City > Improvements Lists improvements you have made to your city, and their maintenance costs. Rename -- Map Menu > Advisors > City Status > City > Rename So you do not like the name Sverdlovsk?Rename lets you change your city name. [ 14 ] ENGLISH Civilization Power Graph -- Map Menu > Game > Retire Once you conquer all other civilizations or your spaceship reaches Alpha Centauri, the game tallies your final score. Press any key to bring up the Civilization Power Graph, which reveals the course and culmination of your civilization's evolution. [. . . ]
