[. . . ] (See Figure 2-9 on page 17) If this display shows a Shorted Battery, it means that the battery is damaged and must be replaced so it does not damage any other parts of your LifeBook. REPLACING THE BATTERY With the purchase of an additional battery, you can have a fully charged spare to swap with one that is not charged. Plug in the AC adapter and turn the power on. CAUTION When you are in Suspend mode there must always be at least one power source active. If you turn off the power with the power switch, or remove all power sources while your LifeBook is in Suspend mode, any data that has not been saved to the hard drive will be lost. (a) Battery Release Panel (d) Dead Battery Suspend mode shows on the Status indicator just like the normal Suspend mode. Once your LifeBook goes into Dead Battery Suspend mode you will be unable to resume operation until you provide a source of power either from an adapter, or a charged battery. Once you have provided power, you will need to press the Suspend/Resume button to resume operation. In the Dead Battery Suspend mode, your data can be maintained for some time, but if a power source is not provided promptly, the Power indicator will stop flashing and go out, meaning that you have lost the data that was not stored. Once you provide power, you can continue to use your LifeBook while an adapter is charging the battery. (b) (e) (c) Figure 4-1 Replacing the Battery (f) CAUTION If the Lithium ion battery connector is not fully seated, you may not be able to use your LifeBook or charge your battery. 52 User Installable Features Eject Button Figure 4-2 Loading/Ejecting a SuperDisk or 3. 5" Floppy Disk SuperDiskTM 120 or Floppy Disk Drive Your Fujitsu LifeBook has either a SuperDisk drive, which can use either standard floppy disks or Super floppy disks (with a capacity of 120MB), or a 3. 5" floppy disk drive with the ability to read and write information on removable 1. 44MB and 720KB floppy disks. WARNING Your SuperDisk 120 drive does not support warm-, or hot-swapping. You must cold-swap in order to use your SuperDisk 120 drive. EJECTING A DISK To eject a disk from the disk drive, follow these easy steps: 1. Remove the disk. SOFTWARE EJECT FOR LS-120 DISK (ONLY IN MODELS WITH WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION) 1. CAUTION If you eject the disk while the Floppy Disk Drive Access indicator is active, there is a risk of damaging the data on the disk, the disk itself or even the disk drive. LOADING A DISK To load a disk into your disk drive, follow these easy steps: 1. Orient the disk so that its label is facing upwards and the shutter side is pointing towards the drive. Push the disk into the drive until the Eject button pops out and you hear a click. POINT When there is no disk in the drive, the Eject button is flush with your LifeBook. PREPARING A DISK FOR USE Before you can use a new disk, it needs to be prepared so your LifeBook knows where to store information. (Please refer to your operating system manual for step-by-step instructions on formatting a disk) 53 LifeBook E Series Section Four To prevent accidental erasure of the data stored on a disk, slide the "write protect" tab until a small hole is exposed. This sets the disk into a protected state where nothing can be added or removed. If you want to add or remove data on a protected disk, slide the "write protect" tab to close the small hole. Select the Device Manager tab to display the device lists for your LifeBook. The treeview will expand to show the LS-120 drive manufacturer's name and model number. Double-click on the LS-120 drive manufacturer's name and model number. This will open the LS-120 drive manufacturer's name and model number dialog box. Select the Settings tab and then remove the check mark in the Auto Insert Notification Notification box to turn it off. [. . . ] In your LifeBook this refers to returning to active operation after having been in one of the suspension states. A form of memory in which information is stored by physically altering the material. Data stored in this way can not be changed by your LifeBook and does not require power to maintain it. Serial Port A connection to another device through which data is transferred one bit at a time on a single wire with any other wires only for control of the device not for transfer of data. Shadow RAM A technique of copying data or applications stored in ROM (Read Only Memory) into RAM (Random Access Memory) for access during actual operation. [. . . ]
