INSTALLING PC CARDS PC Cards are installed in the PC Card slot. To install a PC Card, follow these easy steps: (Figure 4-4) WARNING Installing or removing a PC Card during your notebook's shutdown or bootup process may damage the card and/or your notebook. 1. See your PC Card manual for specific instructions on the installation of your card. Some PC Cards may require your notebook to be Off while installing them. You will hear a click and the Eject button will pop away from your notebook. Lock the PC Card into the slot by sliding the Lock button toward the front of your notebook. 45 LifeBook B Series ­ Section Four REMOVING PC CARDS To remove a PC Card, follow these easy steps: CAUTION Windows has a shutdown procedure for PC Cards that must be followed before removing a card. (Please review your operating system manual for the correct procedure) 2. Unlock the PC Card from the slot by sliding the Lock button toward the rear of your notebook. Flip the Eject button towards the rear of your notebook until it is fully extended, and then push it in until it is flush with the notebook. This will push the PC Card slightly out of the slot allowing you to remove the card. See your PC Card manual for specific instructions on removing your card. Some PC Cards may require your notebook to be in Suspend Mode or Off while removing them. POINT If the dialog box states that the device cannot be removed, you must save all of your open files, close any open applications and shutdown your notebook. Once your notebook has been shutdown, you must turn Off the power using the power switch. If the PC Card has an external connector and cable, do not pull the cable when removing the card. 46 User Installable Features Memory Upgrade Module Your Fujitsu LifeBook notebook may be configured with up to 192MB maximum high speed Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDRAM) factory installed. To increase your notebook's memory capacity, you can replace the original memory module with a higher capacity module. The memory upgrade must be a dual-in-line (DIMM) SDRAM module, however it can be any capacity. CAUTION Do not remove any screws from the memory upgrade module compartment, except the ones specifically shown in the directions for installing and removing the memory upgrade module. CAUTION The memory upgrade module can be severely damaged by electro-static discharge (ESD). Be sure you are properly grounded when handling and installing the module. 6. Align the connector edge of the memory upgrade module with the connector slot in the compartment. Press the connector edge of the module firmly down and into the connector until it lodges under the retaining clip. Turn off power to your notebook using the power switch, and remove any power adapter (AC or auto/airline). Remove the cover. Figure 4-6 Installing a Memory Upgrade Module 9. Shadow RAM A technique of copying data or applications stored in ROM (Read Only Memory) into RAM (Random Access Memory) for access during actual operation.
