The digital media player that stores MPEG4/DivX video's, MP3 music or JPEG pictures on its hard drive and allows you to enjoy these directly on a TV and/or HiFi, without the use of a computer. The Freecom MediaPlayer-3 will give you years of viewing and listening enjoyment. Of course you can also always use it as a regular portable external hard drive. This manual describes current limitations of most common file systems and Instructions to enable you to adapt the MediaPlayer-3 to your needs. Further information and an update to fix this problem can be found in article 263044 of the "Microsoft Knowledge Base"on the Microsoft Website under http://support. microsoft. com. *2 *3 : Hard disk capacity will not be displayed correctly by fdisk!: FAT partitions larger than 2 GB can only be administrated by Windows 2000/XP. 21 Freecom MediaPlayer-3 GB 7 Example for different partitions with different file systems on one MediaPlayer-3 Total size of MediaPlayer-3 File system NTFS 90GB FAT32 30 GB 120 GB The example above is a good solution for Windows 2000/XP users who sometimes exchange data with Windows 98SE/ME PCs. For storing the data under Windows 2000/XP both partitions can be used. As the NTFS file system is not recognized by Windows 98SE/ME data to be used on these operating systems must be stored on the FAT32 partition. Please follow the steps below to adapt the MediaPlayer-3 for your needs. 7. 3 Partitioning your MediaPlayer-3 under Windows 98SE / Windows ME Windows 98SE only: The fdisk version which is installed together with your operating system does not recognize the correct size of hard disks larger than 64 GB. Windows 98SE/ME: For large partitions fdisk will not display the partion size correctly!Further information and an update to fix this problem can be found in article 263044 of the "Microsoft Knowledge Base"on the Microsoft Website under http://support. microsoft. com. 22 Partitioning your MediaPlayer-3 7. 3. 1 Deleting a partition on the MediaPlayer-3 under Windows 98SE / ME The following steps will explain how to delete a partition on your MediaPlayer3. Answer the question "Do you wish to enable large disk support?" by pressing the 'Return' key. Choose Option 5 "(Change current fixed disk drive)" by pressing '5' and 'Return'. Choose Option "3 (Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive)" by pressing '3' and 'Return'. Select option 1 "Delete Primary DOS Partition" by pressing '1' and 'Return'. Select the partition to be deleted by pressing its number and 'Return'. Confirm with 'Y' and 'Return' to delete the partition. Stop your hard disk by using the hot unplug icon in the lower right corner of your screen and remove the USB cable from your hard disk. The hard disk will now be recognized by Windows. After this procedure your Freecom MediaPlayer-3 will be ready for use and it will be allocated a drive letter. Answer the question "Do you wish to enable large disk support?" by pressing the 'Return' key. Choose Option "5 (Change current fixed disk drive)" by pressing '5' and 'Return'. 6.
