If it is still on, call for service. If the Drive Error LED remains on, call for service. or The tape cartridge memory (CM) may be faulty. (Other LEDs may be flashing. ) The drive mechanism has detected an error. The drive has a firmware error. Insert a cartridge to clear the LED sequence; the drive will continue using the old firmware. If the condition persists, call for service. then Power cycle or reset the drive. If the condition persists, call for service. During firmware upgrade CAUTION: Do not reset or power-cycle the drive until the firmware upgrade is complete, otherwise the drive will be not be able to operate. If a firmware upgrade is successful, the LEDs light in sequence during the download as shown in the table above. If a corrupt or incompatible image is downloaded from tape, the Ready LED will remain on steadily and the Tape Error LED will flash until a tape load is started. Touch a bare metal part of the computer, such as a back plate, before you attempt to install or remove the drive. Use the screwdriver to release the tabs at the top of the chassis and underneath. To replace the panel, line up the four tabs with the chassis and push the panel firmly into place. [. . . ] The drive is offline if the tape is currently unloaded or not in the drive. The host has limited access, and cannot perform any commands that would cause tape motion. The host can, however, load a tape, if one is inserted, and can execute any diagnostic tests that do not require tape motion. The host has access to all command operations, including those that access the tape, set configurations and run diagnostic tests. [. . . ]
