[. . . ] When a cartridge book is selected, the color keys function as labelled on that cartridge. ® Changing Settings You can adjust the shutoff time and the screen contrast. The shutoff time is how long BOOKMAN stays on if you forget to turn it off. 1. Press the arrow keys to highlight Set Shutoff on the Other menu. 3. Press ENTER to select it. Or press BACK to exit without changing the setting. 6. Press or repeatedly to adjust the screen contrast. Remember, the color keys for BOOKMAN books in cartridges function as labelled on their cartridges, not as on the keyboard. 5 ® Another Way to Change Contrast You can also adjust the contrast by holding 6 and pressing the DN and UP keys at menus. Viewing a Demonstration Before you start using this book, you may want to view a demonstration of what it can do. Once you have installed and selected the cartridge, press MENU and then the arrow keys to highlight View Demo on the Other menu. If you want to stop the demonstration, press CLEAR . ® Help is Always at Hand Searching for Wines Finding a wine is easy. Type the name of a winery (e. g. , fetzer). To erase a letter, press 3. Press ENTER BACK . You can view a help message at virtually any screen by pressing HELP . To read a tutorial of how to use the main functions and keys of this cartridge, select Tutorial from the Other menu. ® Follow the Arrows twice. Press ?Press the Direction keys to read. The flashing arrows on the right of the screen show which arrow keys you can press to move around the menus or to view more text. The Direction keys are listed in the Key Guide. 7. Press 6 CLEAR when done. Finding Wines by Name You can also find wines by name simply by typing its name at the Wines menu. Press WINES Finding Wines by Criteria You can locate wines by their variety, country, vintage, price range, and other criteria. In this example, we will find highly rated wines priced under $10. 1. Select Price Range from Locate. (red). Or select Wines from the Topics menu. 2. Press BACK to go back to the Locate menu. ® Viewing the Next or Previous Wine When a wine description or other topic is in view, hold 6 and press DN to view the next description or hold 6 and press UP to view the previous one. 7 The bullet shows that Price Range is selected. The asterisks show that no wines priced under $10 are rated 95+ or 100. Finding Wines by Criteria 7. Press to view the matches. Highlighting Search Words When reading wine descriptions or other topics, you can highlight varieties, terms, and certain other words and then search for other occurrences of them. 1. Press ENTER to start the highlight. You can select more criteria now by first pressing . ® Understanding Wine Ratings The wine ratings in this cartridge are those of Robert M. He writes that a rating of 90-100 is the equivalent of an A in school, "given for outstanding or special effort. " Ratings of 80-89 equal a B: "Many of the wines that fall into this range are great values. " 70-79 represents a C, or average mark. Below 70 is a D or F, "the sign of an unbalanced, flawed, or terribly dull or diluted wine. " 5.
