[. . . ] These seats include two rigid or webbing mounted attachments that connect to two anchors at specific seating positions in your vehicle. This type of child seat eliminates the need to use safety belts to attach the child seat. For forward-facing child seats, the tether strap must also be attached to the proper tether anchor point. For information on using tether straps with the child safety seats, refer to Passenger front and side air bag ON/OFF switch and Attaching child safety seats with tether straps in this chapter. A LATCH system for child seat installation has been provided in your vehicle at the following location: 102 Seating and Safety Restraints The lower anchors for child seat installation are located at the rear section of the passenger seat between the cushion and seat back. Follow the child seat manufacturer's instructions to properly install safety seats with LATCH attachments. Attach LATCH lower attachments of the child seat only to the anchors shown. If you install a child seat with rigid LATCH attachments, do not tighten the tether strap enough to lift the child seat off the seat when the child is seated in it. Keep the tether strap just snug without raising the front of the child seat. Keeping the child seat just touching the front of the vehicle seat gives the best protection in a severe crash. Each time you use the child seat, check that the seat is properly attached to the lower anchors for child seat installation and tether anchors. If the safety seat is not anchored properly, the risk of a child being injured in a collision greatly increases. 103 Driving STARTING Positions of the ignition 1. OFF, shuts off the engine and all accessories except the radio, convertible top control and the 5 power windows if accessory delay is active. This position also allows the automatic transmission shift lever to be moved from the P (Park) position without the brake pedal being depressed. When the key is in the ignition OFF position, the automatic transmission shift lever can be moved from the P (Park) position without the brake pedal depressed. To avoid unwanted vehicle movement, always set the parking brake. 3. ACCESSORY, allows the electrical accessories such as the radio to operate while the engine is not running. Preparing to start your vehicle Engine starting is controlled by the powertrain control system. This system meets all Canadian Interference-Causing Equipment standard requirements regulating the impulse electrical field strength of radio noise. When starting a fuel-injected engine, don't press the accelerator before or during starting. Only use the accelerator when you have difficulty starting the engine. For more information on starting the vehicle, refer to Starting the engine in this chapter. 104 Driving Extended idling at high engine speeds can produce very high temperatures in the engine and exhaust system, creating the risk of fire or other damage. [. . . ] Refer to the scheduled maintenance guide to determine the correct service interval. Engine oil need only meet the requirements of Ford specification WSS-M2C153H and the API Certification mark. 6 5 4 185 Maintenance and Specifications LUBRICANT SPECIFICATIONS Ford part name Brake fluid Motorcraft High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid 1 Door Silicone weatherstrips Lubricant Door latch, hood Multi-Purpose Grease latch, auxiliary hood latch, door hinges, striker plates, seat tracks and fuel filler door hinge Engine coolant Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant (yellow-colored) Engine oil Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil (US) Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Super Premium Motor Oil (Canada) Lock cylinders Motorcraft Penetrating and Lock Lubricant Power steering Motorcraft fluid MERCON ATF Item Ford part number PM-1 Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A and DOT 3 F5AZ-19553-AA XL-4 or XL-5 ESR-M13P4-A ESB-M1C93-B or ESR-M1C159-A VC-7-A (VC-7B WSS-M97B51-A1 in Oregon) XO-5W20-QSP (US) CXO-5W20LSP12 (Canada) WSS-M2C153-H with API Certification Mark XL-1 none XT-2-QDX MERCON 186 Maintenance and Specifications Item Rear Axle Lubricant Ford part name Motorcraft SAE 75W-140 High Performance Synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant2 Motorcraft MERCON V ATF 3 Motorcraft Premium Windshield Washer Concentrate Ford part number XY-75W140QL Ford specification WSL-M2C192-A Automatic transmission fluid Windshield washer fluid XT-5-QM MERCON V ZC-32-A WSB-M8B16A2 Use only brake fluids certified to meet Ford specifications.
