[. . . ] Determining if the system is operational The supplemental restraint system uses a warning indicator light in the instrument cluster or a back-up tone to indicate the condition of the system. Refer to the Warning lights and chimes section in the Instrument Cluster chapter. A difficulty with the system is indicated by one or more of the following: · The readiness light (same light for front and side airbag system) will either flash or stay lit. · The readiness light will not illuminate immediately after ignition is turned on. The tone pattern will repeat periodically until the problem and/or light are repaired. If any of these things happen, even intermittently, have the supplemental restraint system serviced at an authorized dealer immediately. Unless serviced, the system may not function properly in the event of a collision. Seat-mounted side airbag system (if equipped) Do not place objects or mount equipment on or near the airbag cover on the side of the seatbacks of the front seats or in front seat areas that may come into contact with a deploying airbag. Failure to follow these instructions may increase the risk of personal injury in the event of a collision. The use of accessory seat covers may prevent the deployment of the side airbags and increase the risk of injury in an accident. The side airbag could injure you as it deploys from the side of the seatback. 151 2007 Freestyle (219) Owners Guide (post-2002-fmt) USA (fus) Seating and Safety Restraints Do not attempt to service, repair, or modify the airbag SRS, its fuses or the seat cover on a seat containing an airbag. All occupants of the vehicle should always wear their safety belts even when an airbag SRS is provided. The design and development of the side airbag system included recommended testing procedures that were developed by a group of automotive safety experts known as the Side Airbag Technical Working Group. These recommended testing procedures help reduce the risk of injuries related to the deployment of side airbags. The side airbag system consists of the following: · An inflatable nylon bag (airbag) with a gas generator concealed behind the outboard bolster of the driver and front passenger seatbacks. · The same warning light, electronic control and diagnostic unit as used for the front airbags. · Crash sensors located on the B and C pillars (one sensor on each pillar on each side of the vehicle). Side airbags, in combination with safety belts, can help reduce the risk of severe injuries in the event of a significant side impact collision. The side airbags are fitted on the outboard side of the seatbacks of the front seats. In certain lateral collisions, the airbag on the side affected by the collision will be inflated. If the front passenger sensing system detects an empty seat, the front passenger seat-mounted side airbag will be deactivated. [. . . ] The customer warranty may be void for any damage to the emissions system if such a PCV valve is not used. Refer to scheduled maintenance information for the appropriate intervals for changing the spark plugs. Replace the spark plugs with ones that meet Ford material and design specifications for your vehicle, such as Motorcraft or equivalent replacement parts. The customer warranty may be void for any damage to the engine if such spark plugs are not used. 285 2007 Freestyle (219) Owners Guide (post-2002-fmt) USA (fus) MAINTENANCE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS AND CAPACITIES Items Capacity Ford Part Number / Ford Specification PM-1 or PM-1-C / ESA-M6C25-A or WSS-M6C62-A 286 Brake fluid Between MAX and MIN on reservoir Ford Part Name or equivalent Motorcraft High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid Multi-Purpose Grease XG-4 or XL-5 / ESA-M1C93-B XL-1 / None XT-7-QCFT / WSS-M2C933-A XY-80W90-QL / WSP-M2C197-A 1161641 / None XY-75W90-PTU / None Door latch, hood latch, auxiliary hood latch, seat tracks, trunk and liftgate latches -- Lock cylinders Automatic CVT transaxle fluid1 Rear Axle fluid (AWD) Coupler fluid Power Transfer Unit (PTU) fluid 1. 9 pints (0. 9L) 1. 5 pints (0. 7L) 1. 5 pints (0. 7L) 10. 0 quarts (9. 5L)2 -- Motorcraft Penetrating and Lock Lubricant Motorcraft Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid Motorcraft SAE 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant Volvo Transmission Oil, Clutch Motorcraft Specialty Power Transfer Unit Fluid 2007 Freestyle (219) Owners Guide (post-2002-fmt) USA (fus) Maintenance and Specifications 2007 Freestyle (219) Owners Guide (post-2002-fmt) USA (fus) Items Capacity Maintenance and Specifications 287 Ford Part Name or Ford Part Number / equivalent Ford Specification Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 XO-5W20-QSP (US) Premium Synthetic CXO-5W20-LSP12 Blend Motor Oil (US) (Canada) / Engine oil 6. 0 quarts (5. 7L) Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 WSS-M2C930-A and API Super Premium Motor Certification Mark Oil (Canada)4 Motorcraft Premium VC-7-B / 11. 6 quarts Gold Engine Coolant Engine coolant WSS-M97B51-A1 (11. 0L) with bittering agent (yellow-colored)3 Cooling system stop Motorcraft Cooling VC-6 / -- leak pellets System Stop Leak Pellets WSS-M99B37-B6 Between MAX and Motorcraft MERCON XT-2-QDX / Power steering fluid MIN on reservoir ATF MERCON Motorcraft Premium ZC-32-A / Windshield washer fluid 135. 0 oz.
